Chapter 37
Chapter 37
Tara stops dead in her tracks, realizing Jade is completely missing from the formation.
She scowls, her eyes scanning the violently swaying jungle canopy. “Get to the cave,” Tara orders the group. “I’m going back for her.”
Damn it. Jade is either still gorging herself on those berries or hopelessly lost in the dense brush.
‘Are you out of your mind?!” Ana grabs Tara’s arm, her face pale with panic. “The storm is literally breaking right now!”
Running into a tropical storm is pure suicide. Is Jade entirely brain-dead? Why does she constantly drag everyone else down with her?
Tara gently shakes off Ana’s grip. “I’ll be fine. I know how to handle myself.”
n truth, a dark part of her wants to let Jade rot in the wild after all the vicious schemes she has pulled. But Tara refuses to have a death on her conscience. Moreover, if Jade actually dies, the production company will Face criminal charges, and the rest of the cast will be dragged into a massive legal nightmare.
The only acceptable outcome is bringing the spoiled brat back alive.
Without another word, Tara turns and sprints directly into the howling
wind.
The live chat spirals into absolute chaos:
[Oh my god! This is way too dangerous!]
[Tara, don’t do it! She’s not worth your life!]
[Jade is a literal liability. How do you see a hurricane rolling in and not go back to camp?!]
Deep in the jungle, Jade lies curled in the mud beneath a massive banyan tree, her hands clutching her stomach as agonizing cramps rip through her abdomen.
She finally realizes Tara wasn’t lying. The pain from the Ruby Berries is blinding.
The wind roars like a freight train, and massive, freezing raindrops begin to hammer down on her fragile frame. She hugs her knees, sobbing in pure despair.
‘Jade!”
A sharp, familiar voice cuts through the deafening storm.
Jade snaps her head up. Tara stands over her, completely drenched, her eyes locked onto her target.
“Y-you…” Jade stammers, utterly bewildered.
‘Can you walk?” Tara crouches in the mud, quickly assessing Jade’s
condition.
Jade shakes her head weakly, tears mixing with the freezing rain. “My stomach… it hurts so much…”
Without a second of hesitation, Tara grabs Jade’s arm and hoists it heavily over her own shoulder. “Hold on to me.”
Together, they trudge through the blinding tempest. Lightning violently tears across the black sky, followed by bone-rattling thunder.
At that exact moment, the live broadcast abruptly cuts to a black screen holding a simple text graphic: Due to severe weather conditions, the live feed has been temporarily suspended. The crew has scrambled to pull the drones back before they are destroyed by the winds.
Dragging Jade through the mud, they approach the steep, jagged precipice of Eagle’s Point.
Chapter 37
Suddenly, Jade’s muddy boot slips on a wet rock. She shrieks as her momentum throws her off balance, sliding dangerously toward the sheer drop.
In a split-second reaction, Tara lunges forward, grabbing Jade’s wrist in a vise grip.
The force yanks them both to the edge. Tara strains every muscle in her body, fighting the slippery mud to haul Jade back onto solid ground.
But as Jade scrambles to safety, the unstable rock beneath Tara’s boots completely gives way.
