Chapter 38

Chapter 38

When Tara ran back into the storm, she hadn’t overthought it. She would have risked her life to pull a complete stranger out of a hurricane.

She just never expected Jade to be this utterly irredeemable-biting the very hand that dragged her from the mud.

Forcing her panic down, Tara quickly glances into the dark, yawning abyss below, instantly calculating her odds of survival if she falls.

Jade tilts her head, her smile turning viciously innocent. “Don’t blame me, Tara. Heaven practically handed me this opportunity.”

“Karma is real, Jade,” Tara spits through the torrential rain. “You’ll get exactly what’s coming to you.”

‘Karma?” Jade laughs, the sound completely unhinged. “I don’t believe in that. Good luck down there, sister. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely send a rescue team for you… eventually. Try to hold on until then!”

‘You-”

The thick root above Tara’s head lets out a sickening snap, the fibers tearing under her weight.

Moving on pure instinct, Tara’s hand shoots out, frantically wrapping around a thicker vine just a few inches away.

The rain beats down relentlessly.

Jade stands up, her eyes flashing with pure malice. She lifts her heavy boot and stomps down violently on Tara’s knuckles. “Go to hell!”

A blinding spike of agony shoots up Tara’s arm. Her grip fails, and she plummets into the darkness.

Watching Tara vanish into the void, a triumphant laugh bubbles up in Jade’s throat.

Finally. A fall from Eagle’s Point guarantees Tara is nothing more than shattered bones at the bottom of the ravine.

Jade peers over the edge one last time. The abyss is pitch black, silent, and endless. Satisfied, she turns her back on the cliff.

She never imagined this miserable reality show would hand her such a flawless victory. With Tara out of the picture, her path is totally clear. There is no one left to steal her spotlight, no one to challenge her status.

She will be the one and only heiress to the Dennis family. She will secure her position, marry Evan, and take everything she deserves.

The thought floods Jade’s chest with intoxicating warmth. The freezing ‘ain doesn’t even bother her anymore.

She knows exactly where the safe zone is-Tara had pointed it out just before they reached the cliff. Sprinting toward the cave, Jade begins to wail, perfectly manufacturing her panic. “Help! Somebody help!”

Meanwhile, in mid-air, Tara’s eyes snap open.

As gravity violently drags her down, she reaches toward her belt, drawing er heavy survival knife in a flash of silver. With a feral shout, she twists her body and violently drives the blade straight into a fissure in the rock vall!

The momentum wrenches her shoulder, but the blade holds. Using the <nife as an anchor, she swings her legs up, finding a foothold on the slick ock, and begins hauling herself upward.

She had mapped this exact cliff face in her mind during the boat ride in. She knew there was a deep, hidden cavern carved halfway down the sheer rock.

Exhausted from dragging Jade and battered by the hurricane, she desperately needs shelter and time to recover her stamina.

Heaving herself over the ledge, Tara rolls onto the stone floor of the hidden cavern, panting heavily. She was right. The cave is massive,

perfectly shielded from the wind, and seems to connect back up to the main jungle floor through a network of tunnels.

As her eyes adjust to the gloom, she notices a series of bright, unnatural symbols painted on the rock wall.

They are production crew markers.
