Chapter 39
Chapter 39
Tears stream down Jade’s face as she collapses onto the cold stone floor, her voice choking with perfectly calculated devastation. “It’s all my fault… If I hadn’t wandered off… she never would have gone out into the storm to find me…”
Ana’s face drains of all color. “What?! She fell off?!”
“We need to call search and rescue immediately!” Amanda shouts, panic lacing her voice.
The cavern descends into absolute chaos, the women frantically trying to figure out a way to mount a rescue mission.
‘The storm is too violent,” Tina says grimly, staring out at the torrential downpour. “The director’s boats can’t launch in this, and neither can the rescue teams. We’re completely cut off.”
They have absolutely no choice but to wait.
‘Tara is incredibly tough,” Ana says, her voice trembling as she tries to ́eassure herself. “She has to be okay.”
‘She’s highly skilled and she has a good heart,” Amanda agrees, wiping ner eyes. “She’ll make it out of this. I know she will.”
With everyone’s attention fixed on the storm, no one notices the fleeting, malicious smirk that tugs at the corner of Jade’s lips.
Make it out? Jade scoffs internally. A drop from that cliff guarantees every bone in her body is shattered. When the rain stops, the only thing they’ll be doing is zipping her into a body bag.
The cavern falls into a tense, agonizing silence.
Hours later, the violent winds finally die down, and the black clouds break, giving way to clear skies.
Within minutes, the director and a heavily equipped rescue team storm

into the cave.
Jade immediately throws herself at the director, her eyes red and swollen. “Please, you have to find her! She fell off the cliff, and I don’t know if she survived!”
It has to be said-Jade’s acting is truly top-tier. Her performance of a traumatized, grieving sister is so flawless it deserves an international award.
The director’s face is ash-white. “Deploy the search teams immediately! Get the drones in the air!”
If Tara is dead, the network will be ruined by lawsuits.
But just as the rescue divers prepare to mobilize, a shadow appears at the mouth of the cavern.
Tara steps into the light. She is soaked to the bone, bruised, and covered in mud, but she is standing tall. And in her hand, she casually holds The
Grand Cache.
The entire rescue team freezes. The air in the cave turns to stone.
Jade’s face turns a sickening shade of grey. Her lips tremble violently as she stammers, “T-Tara…? How are you…”
Is she a ghost?!
There is absolutely no way she survived that fall! Jade stares at Tara with wide, terrified eyes, feeling as though she has actually seen a demon.
“How am I not dead? Sorry to disappoint you, Jade,” Tara says with a glacial smirk. She walks right past her and hands the heavy crate to the stunned director.
The director lets out a massive breath of relief and laughs out loud. “You are amazing! We hid this in a treacherous ravine, completely concealed by the jungle. We were certain no one would actually complete this objective!”

Tara smiles gracefully, though her eyes remain locked on Jade with lethal intent. “Well, if a certain someone hadn’t pushed me off a cliff, I never would have stumbled upon it.”
