Nikolai has been drowning in more headaches than usual lately, leaving him constantly on edge. Before he can even catch his breath, Jade is already clinging to him again. Even someone with the best temper would find it unbearable.
"Jade, I know you’re feeling a bit upset, but Tara really did the Dennis Group a massive favor this time," he says, trying to maintain his patience. "You two are sisters. You should be learning from each other and yielding to each other. Your sister has done an outstanding job lately, and you need to look to her as an example, okay?"
Jade knows Nikolai’s preachy, earnest personality all too well. Even though she harbors ten thousand grievances, she knows better than to push the issue right now. She offers a superficial nod. "I understand, Nikolai. I'll use my sister as a role model."
Like hell she will!
She knows Nikolai and Tara used to share an incredibly close bond. Since her subtle complaining didn't get him to react the way she wanted, she decides to drop it. She doesn't want to leave a bad impression on Nikolai right after thoroughly alienating Jake. So, Jade heads back to the Dennis estate to cry to Deanna.
The moment she sees Deanna, Jade bursts into dramatic tears, crying as if her heart is shattered. She spins a heavily embellished, twisted narrative, dragging Tara’s name through the mud. She even drops deliberate hints that Tara is actively trying to drive a wedge between the three brothers.
She has lived a charmed life. The wealthy wives in her social circle secretly whisper that aside from winning the genetic lottery and marrying a faithful husband, she brings nothing to the table. And why would she need to? She gave birth to three sons back-to-back, followed by a daughter, securing her status in the family dynasty. Deanna has enjoyed an incredibly comfortable life. The only question is whether her ignorant bliss can last forever.
"Mom, I don't want to replace my sister. I'm just worried she's being too high-profile and will do something drastic when she inevitably fails," Jade lies smoothly, her ability to spout absolute nonsense without a shred of guilt growing sharper by the day.
"That’s exactly why I’m saying you should take the ambassador role this time. We can just save the next opportunity for her," Deanna reasons. She genuinely believes that since her adopted daughter is so incredibly selfless, granting her this one wish will clear her own conscience.
