Deanna’s logic is so bizarre that if an outsider heard it, they would be utterly speechless.
"You're so good to me, Mom. I never want to get married. I just want to stay by your side and take care of you forever," Jade says, enthusiastically massaging Deanna’s shoulders while laying the manipulation on thick. The sweet words leave Deanna dizzy with happiness.
"Silly girl. You’re engaged to Evan now. You’re going to be his happy wife. How could I let you stay single and wait on me your whole life?" Deanna replies warmly. She knows she has her husband to rely on, plus infinite wealth and servants. She doesn't actually need her daughter to serve her. Jade knows this perfectly well, which is exactly why she says it.
The two of them share a cozy, laughing moment until the three brothers walk through the door, shattering the domestic tranquility. Deanna immediately launches into Jade’s grievances and demands they fix the situation. She fully expects her three sons to share her outrage, feel sorry for Jade, and immediately brainstorm a solution to salvage the campaign.
Instead, Jake shuts her down without a second thought. "Don't talk to me about this. Talk to Nikolai. He’s the one managing her affairs at the company." He can't even be bothered to say Jade's name, referring to her simply as 'her.'
Nikolai frowns. "Mom, stop interfering. The internal politics of the company aren't as simple and pretty as you think. I don't have the final say on most things. Plus, Tara genuinely did a lot of good for the company this time. There is absolutely nothing wrong with her acting as the promotional ambassador."
