The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 405

"I think giving it to Jade is the much better choice," Alec argues stubbornly. "Tara runs her own entertainment agency. Whatever money we invest in her promotional campaign is never coming back to us. But if Jade becomes the ambassador, I can have Dennis Media package her perfectly. We absolutely won't have a repeat of last time."

Alec is desperately trying to turn the tide, driven by his own selfish motives. Since Jake handed him control of Dennis Media, Alec is eager to prove his worth and generate some real results. Jade shares the exact same ambition; she is still fiercely holding out hope for a glamorous career in the entertainment industry.

Jake lets out a dark chuckle, utterly exasperated by his brother’s delusional logic. "Right. And you and I both know exactly how much useless effort we wasted and how many catastrophic messes we had to clean up last time."

Jake was nearly destroyed by his involvement with Dennis Media. The only reason Charles didn't completely liquidate the subsidiary was because Jake was his own son.

Jake has learned his lesson. He refuses to be used by Jade again, and he refuses to touch Dennis Media with a ten-foot pole. He isn't going to dig his own grave.

"Don't forget," Nikolai interjects, cutting to the core of the issue, "Astra Media is growing stronger by the day, and Tara's personal fame is skyrocketing. Plus, she has Danny backing her."

That single sentence silences Alec. He knows the Calhoun family isn't an entity they can easily mess with. Especially Danny. Alec has always convinced himself that Tara’s meteoric rise in the entertainment industry is solely due to Danny pulling strings behind the scenes. He would rather die than admit his own competence is the problem.

With Alec silenced and Deanna at a loss for words, panic tightly grips Jade’s chest. But she doesn't dare push the issue further.
