The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 41

Chapter 41

Jade’s words fall flat, and the reporters exchange skeptical glances, clearly not buying her forced attempt at drama. The live stream’s comment section explodes with mockery. Viewers call out Jade for piggybacking on Tara’s fame, faking their sisterly bond, and abandoning her teammates during the storm. “She’s just playing the victim again,” one comment reads.

Tara stands off to the side, a faint smile playing on her lips, her eyes cold. She knows Jade too well; the girl never misses a chance to steal the spotlight. But the reporters only have eyes for Tara.

Sensing Tara’s exhaustion, the director quickly steps.in to smooth things over. “Everyone, today is just the wrap party. We’ll schedule exclusive nterviews later!”

At the party, guests gather in small clusters, laughing and chatting. Tara holds a glass of champagne, standing alone by the terrace. Her thoughts drift to Danny; it is time to head back and continue his treatments. He had messaged her the second she returned, insisting on picking her up personally.

‘Why are you hiding out here all alone?” Amanda walks over, offering her a small pastry. “Try this. It’s the hotel’s signature dessert.”

Tara takes it, murmuring a soft thanks.

Right then, Jade’s sickly sweet voice chimes in from behind. “Tara, there you are!” She strolls over with a wine glass in hand.

“What do you want?” Tara asks, her tone freezing over.

Jade pretends not to notice the icy reception, offering a sugary smile. “Jake just called. He wants us to come home after the party.”

“I have plans,” Tara refuses flatly.

“Jake wants to discuss your contract. Surely you wouldn’t turn that down,”

Chapter 41

Jade says, deliberately emphasizing the word ‘contract’.

‘Don’t worry, I’ll go back tomorrow,” Tara replies smoothly.

Jade still hasn’t learned when to quit, Tara thinks, a hint of mockery flashing in her eyes. If they want to play games with her contract, she is more than happy to play along.

It isn’t about the penalty fee; tearing their plans apart with her own two hands is just so much more satisfying. They want to scheme for her company shares? Let them try.

‘Okay, Tara. We’re family, after all. I hope this doesn’t drive a wedge between us,” Jade says with fake sincerity.

‘Family?” Tara chuckles. “Jade, there are no cameras here. You can drop the act.”

Jade’s expression falters. “How… how could you say that?” Careful of the reporters nearby, she keeps her voice down, terrified of getting caught on record.

Tara takes a step forward, closing the distance. “Drop the hypocrisy, Jade. You know exactly what you did on the island. Karma always comes to collect.”

Jade pales instantly. Tara laughs softly, though her gaze remains as cold

as ice.

After the party, Tara walks out of the hotel. Danny’s sleek black Maybach is parked just a short distance away. Seeing her approach, he opens the door.

“Welcome back,” he greets her.

Tara smiles and nods. “You really didn’t have to come.”

“I absolutely had to. You’re my lead doctor and my lifesaver,” Danny says, gesturing for her to get in.
