Chapter 44

Chapter 44

“Tara!” Mrs. Dennis’s face turns green with rage.

Mr. Dennis slams his mug onto the table. “Enough! Tara, we called you here to discuss business.”

Tara raises an eyebrow. “Oh? What business? Don’t tell me you want me to hand my endorsements over to Jade?”

Hit right on the mark, Jake flushes with anger and embarrassment. He shoves a folder across the table, his expression stormy. “This is your new schedule. You just finished that reality show and have some buzz, so the company secured a script for you. You’re meeting the director tomorrow night to discuss it.”

Tara takes the folder and flips through the pages. Suddenly, she lets out a sharp laugh. “You want me to play an escort? And step aside so Jade can take my fashion deals? You guys really have it all figured out.”

She skims the script and the production team’s details. When her eyes and on the director’s name, a cold smirk crosses her face. She knows exactly what they are playing at.

‘This is a company decision!” Jake snaps, slamming his hand on the table. “The contract is crystal clear. You follow our arrangements!”

‘Director Wyatt?” Tara taps the paper, her eyes gleaming with absolute Frost. “The same Director Wyatt famous for preying on actresses?”

A flicker of guilt crosses Jake’s face, but he recovers quickly. “This was a carefully considered decision. Director Wyatt’s new film has a multi-million dollar budget. You should be honored to have a role in it.”

Tara sneers. “Honored? You want to make Jade a star so badly, why don’t you offer it to her?”

“Jade has other commitments. If you don’t want the role, fine. Hand over your shares in the company, and we’ll terminate your contract,” Jake

suggests smoothly.

Ah, so it is about the shares after all. Perfect. They are practically begging for a fight. It seems she needs to accelerate her plans.

Jade steps in, feigning concern while a vicious light dances in her eyes. “Jake, don’t be mad. Maybe Tara just needs time to adjust to such a challenging role…”

Tara suddenly stands up, staring down at the Dennis family with absolute authority. “Fine. Since you put it that way, I accept. But don’t come crying to me later.”

This time, she will make sure Jake realizes just how colossal of a mistake he has made. Jake freezes for a second, momentarily intimidated by her overwhelming presence. It has to be an illusion. What can Tara possibly do? Does she really think Danny will fight her battles for her? She is completely out of her depth.

Without another word, Tara turns and walks out of the house. Even one more second in that suffocating place is too much.

Besides, she has a lunch date. Danny booked a table at The Spring Garden, the most famous private club in the city. Located in the heart of the ultra-expensive downtown district, The Spring Garden boasts exquisite scenery and unparalleled privacy, making it a favorite among the elite.

The moment Tara steps into the club, the manager hurries over respectfully. “Ms. Tara, Mr. Calhoun is already waiting for you.”
