The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 472

Evan isn't stupid enough to keep arguing a lost cause. He takes a step back and nods. "Fine. We'll cancel it when the storm passes."

Lana breathes a sigh of relief, glad her son has finally stopped throwing a tantrum.

But the second Evan leaves the room, he pulls out his phone and orders his contacts to fan the flames of the scandal. Since he can't convince his parents to call off the wedding, he has no problem muddying the waters himself. If he pushes the Dennis family into complete chaos, his mother might be forced to cancel the engagement on her own.

To guarantee maximum damage, he leaks a few old photos of Jake and Jade sitting intimately close during a card game two years ago. Sure, it means selling out his childhood friend, but since Evan is currently suffering, he has no problem dragging his buddy down into the trenches with him. The photos hit the internet through an anonymous insider, pouring gasoline on the Dennis family’s already blazing PR nightmare.

Minutes later, Jake’s name flashes on Evan's screen.

Evan answers the call with a shameless grin.

"You leaked those photos, didn't you? Are you trying to get me killed?" Jake’s voice is laced with venom. He has spent the last few days being hounded by his parents and elders, and this new leak is the final straw. Those photos are from a private game Evan hosted two years ago. Evan is the only person who had them.

Evan drops the act. "What else was I supposed to do? My parents are refusing to cancel the engagement. I had to take drastic measures. If this blows up enough, my mom will have to pull the plug. Take one for the team, man."

Jake practically screams into the receiver. "I'm in just as much hell as you are!"

"We’re trauma-bonded now," Evan chuckles. "Come out for a drink."

Jake lets out a dark, humorless laugh. "You throw me to the wolves, and then you ask me out for a drink?"

"You have to come. We need to pre-celebrate our freedom. It’ll be even better if Jade gets kicked out of the house. I know you've been putting up with her for a long time, but you couldn't make a move. Aren't you glad I gave you a push? Don't worry about the gossip. People are saying I'm being cheated, and I'm not even mad."
