"Julianna, I'm standing up for you!" Bonnie whines, her lack of a filter making her prone to quick tears. "Why aren't you on my side?"
Julianna maintains her mask of serene indifference. "I'm not against you, Bonnie. I just believe love cannot be forced. Whatever happens, happens."
She comforts her younger cousin with a gentle touch, projecting the image of a grounded, unbothered woman who doesn't resort to petty jealousy. Grandmother Sinclair watches Julianna with deep approval. Coming from a prestigious lineage, the matriarch despises emotional manipulation and hysterical women. She prefers this exact temperament—a woman who doesn't turn into a bitter ex, who doesn't rely on a man for her identity, and who commands her own emotions.
"Take notes from your cousin, Bonnie," the older woman chides gently. "Stop flying off the handle at the slightest provocation."
"Fine," Bonnie mutters, crossing her arms. She still thinks Julianna is too good for the humiliation she's enduring.
Once their grandmother leaves the room, however, Julianna's serene facade shatters.
"Bonnie, you need to be smarter," Julianna snaps, her voice dropping to a sharp whisper. "Running to Grandma with complaints is useless."
Bonnie blinks, instantly submissive to her older cousin. "I know. But... are you really just going to let Tara win? You're fine with Danny parading around with her?"
"We have no control over who Danny sees. Throwing a tantrum now will only make him resent us," Julianna replies, her voice smooth as glass but dripping with venom. "We wait. Tara's life will not remain this perfect forever."
