The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 487

Moments later, the door swings open. The face staring back at Deanna is painfully familiar. It is none other than her deeply trusted husband, Charles.

Even with all her mental preparation, Deanna freezes in her tracks.

"Charles, why are you here?" she asks, her voice trembling. Seeing him here only cements her worst fears.

"Honey? What are you doing here?" Charles asks, blinking in surprise.

"What am I doing here? I should be asking you that!" Deanna came with the intention of just taking a look, promising herself she wouldn't act like a hysterical housewife. But actually seeing him standing right in front of her ignites a furious inferno in her chest. She wants to lunge forward and claw his face. A chaotic mix of anger, shock, and utter heartbreak swirls within her.

"What has gotten into you? Why are you suddenly showing up here and making a scene?" Charles grabs her wrist, his tone carrying a hint of irritation.

"Someone tipped me off that you were hiding a mistress here, and here you are!" Deanna snaps, trying to yank her hand free. "Spill it! Where is she? How long have you been keeping another woman behind my back?"

Facing her rapid-fire accusations, Charles puts on a thoroughly hurt expression. "What mistress? Someone is clearly messing with your head to drive us apart."

"Don't lie to me! Then why are you here?"

"I bought this property. Is it a crime to check on my own real estate?" Charles argues, sounding incredibly justified.

"I'm here as their lawyer to handle the property transfer," Nikolai answers matter-of-factly. In truth, he found the whole situation bizarre. He had been buried in work at the office when his father called, demanding he rush over immediately to process the deed. He hurried over with a head full of questions but kept his mouth shut since it benefited Jade.

"Exactly. Nikolai and Dad were just in such a rush," Jade chimes in, perfectly slipping into her role as the sweet, understanding daughter. "Honestly, we are all family. It doesn't matter if the house is in my name or not."

Beneath her sweet facade, Jade is practically doing cartwheels. Her mother, Jovani, had predicted this perfectly. Jovani knew Deanna would get suspicious and come snooping, which provided the perfect leverage to force Charles into officially signing the house over. Jovani had been eyeing the property for a while, but Charles always brushed her off with excuses about being too busy. Now, the trap has forced his hand.

"A promise is a promise," Charles says smoothly. "You risked everything to save your mother. I told you I would reward you properly."
