It is just past nine in the evening, yet the entire village is already shrouded in darkness. Finding a local to ask for directions is nearly impossible, and the thick regional dialect makes communication a nightmare.

"I actually have a rough idea of where we are, but it's going to be a hassle for Tara to get to us in the dark," Luke suggests. "Why don't we just find a place to crash for the night and meet up in the morning?"

Luke had originally come to this remote area to scout land for a new resort development, so he actually knows the terrain fairly well. Given the late hour and the rugged roads, bunking down in a local motel makes the most sense. But his primary motivation for keeping his distance is pure self-preservation. He knows Danny is undoubtedly speeding toward Tara right now, and if his buddy catches Luke lingering around after failing to protect her, he is going to catch a serious beatdown. It is far safer to stay completely out of the picture.

"Sounds good. We'll meet up tomorrow," Tara agrees effortlessly.

She has no idea about Luke's cowardly ulterior motives. To her, it just makes tactical sense. The hour is late, and despite his uselessness in a fight, Luke has proven he possesses excellent survival instincts to keep Bianca safe. Plus, the adrenaline crash is starting to hit her hard. More importantly, she is still the primary target. If more assassins are lurking in the shadows, she refuses to put Bianca and Luke in the crossfire again.

With the plan settled, Tara hikes back to where she left the motorized tricycle and drives it toward a nearby motel. In this underdeveloped stretch of nowhere, the rickety vehicle is a godsend; after taking down a dozen men, her muscles are screaming, and she has zero desire to walk another step.

She pulls up to a modest but clean-looking inn and heads inside to secure a room.
