Chapter 53

Before Samuel even finishes his sentence, a waiter is sent down to invite Tara and Bianca to

the VIP room.

As soon as she walks in, Luke waves enthusiastically. “Hey, Tara. Fancy seeing you here.”

Luke has always been overly friendly, dropping formalities instantly. Tara nods politely, a little surprised by the coincidence.

“Ignore them. Come sit over here,” Danny says, his voice cutting through the noise.

“Look at him, already fiercely protective,” Luke teases.

“Alright, we’re all here. Can we play cards now?” Samuel asks, practically vibrating with/

confidence.

Luke looks at Tara and smiles warmly. “Tara, do you want to join us?”

Before Tara can even decline, Bianca grabs her hand excitedly. “Yes! You have to play, Tara!

Come on!”

Danny’s brow furrows. He is just about to intervene when Samuel beats him to it. “What is it,

Danny? Afraid she’s going to lose your money?”

Tara flashes a calm, unbothered smile. “Sure. But my poker skills are pretty average.”

“It doesn’t matter. Whatever you lose goes on my tab,” Danny’s deep voice murmurs right

beside her ear.

Samuel practically rubs his hands together, looking at Tara like a wolf eyeing a sheep. The group moves into the club’s private card room.

Coincidentally, Alec is already there. Alec loves gambling and frequently hosts games with his socialite buddies. Seeing Tara walk in, Alec lets out a cold sneer. “Tara, you don’t belong here. Do you even know how to hold a deck of cards?”

His tone drips with utter disdain.

Tara meets his gaze, a chilling smirk curling her lips. “Why don’t you sit down and find out?”

Alec slams his drink down, thoroughly provoked. “You’re on!”

Danny frowns, stepping forward to shut Alec down, but Tara gently presses a hand to his arm. “Don’t worry. I’ve got this.”

Tonight, she is going to make Alec cry all the way home. Everyone here thinks she is an amateur, so she is more than happy to show them the truth.

Samuel clears his throat, feigning modesty. “I rarely play either. I’m a little rusty.”

Luke rolls his eyes. “Samuel, how can you lie with that straight face? You literally play poker five nights a week.”

“I’m just trying to make the lovely lady feel comfortable!” Samuel protests. “Besides, with Danny here, winning won’t be easy anyway.”

Since Tara is apparently an amateur, Samuel is desperate to get her at the table. If Danny decides to play and crush them all like usual, it ruins the fun. However, since Danny is sitting this one out, Samuel is eager to feed his ego by crushing the rookie.

Everyone takes their seats. They are all wealthy heirs who run in the same circles, so the atmosphere quickly settles into a familiar, competitive rhythm.

“Let’s begin,” Tara says coolly.
