Bonnie knows her father's temper all too well. It only takes a few stern words from Gregory to make her clamp her mouth shut.
Nearby, Jade glares at the Sinclair women, practically turning green with envy. She resents their effortless privilege, thinking about how lucky they are to be born into a prestigious dynasty like the Sinclair family. They have never had to worry about a thing, pampered and worshipped their entire lives. Jade is convinced that if she had been handed those same golden resources from birth, she would be far more successful than Julianna. In her eyes, the Sinclair women are just riding on good luck, possessing no real talent whatsoever. She doesn't find Julianna impressive in the slightest.
Seeking an ally, Jade turns to her mother, Jovani, planning to whisper a few complaints. But when she looks up, she catches Jovani staring intently at Gregory.
Jovani doesn't even blink. Her eyes brim with an intense, complicated emotion that Jade can't quite decipher. What Jade does understand is the sheer disgust and hatred flashing in her mother's eyes whenever she glances toward Katie. Why? Jade wonders, though she possesses enough tact to keep her questions to herself in such a public setting.
Meanwhile, Bonnie stews in her own frustration. It infuriates her that Katie refuses to stand up for Julianna, and worse, that her own father seems to agree with Katie's hands-off approach. Unable to talk back to the two powerful family heads, Bonnie's spiteful gaze lands on Tara. Seeing Tara's calm, unbothered expression, Bonnie assumes the girl is secretly gloating. She bristles, convinced Tara is silently celebrating the fact that she successfully tore Danny and Julianna apart. Does this nobody seriously think she's going to marry Danny? Bonnie thinks bitterly. If it weren't for this tramp, Danny would never have broken the engagement so abruptly!
Fueled by indignation on her cousin's behalf, Bonnie sets her sights on a new target. "Professor Howard!" she calls out sweetly, intentionally directing the room's attention to Tara. "Miss Dennis here is incredibly knowledgeable about pharmaceutical research. Everyone says she's a once-in-a-century genius. Since you're a prestigious academician at the National Institute, wouldn't it be wonderful if you two had a little professional exchange?"
Bonnie elevates Tara to an impossibly high pedestal, deliberately tossing her into Professor Howard's path. Her motive is transparent: she wants to publicly humiliate Tara and exact revenge for Julianna. Anyone in the industry knows that Harvey Howard is an arrogant, elitist man who looks down on almost everyone. If a self-proclaimed genius thinks they can show off in front of him, he will tear them apart without mercy.
Tara, who was perfectly content watching the drama unfold from the sidelines, suppresses a sigh. Her sheer magnetism for trouble is exhausting. She idly wonders if she needs to find a psychic to ward off this ridiculous bad luck.
"Oh? A once-in-a-century genius?" Howard raises an eyebrow, his gaze drifting over to Tara. Her completely unimpressed demeanor instantly rubs him the wrong way. Most people fawn over him, desperate for his approval. This girl, who barely looks twenty, acts as if he is nothing special. Consequently, Howard takes an immediate dislike to her, even if her face looks faintly familiar.
