The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 567

Danny softens, understanding her maternal anxiety perfectly. He listens patiently to her lecture before offering a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, I make sure to eat properly at the office. I'm not going to run my body into the ground."

He desperately wants to add that his future wife is a world-class doctor who will keep him in peak physical condition, but he holds his tongue.

Katie waves a hand dismissively, shattering his heartwarming illusion. "No, no, you misunderstand me. I'm saying that having the chef cook for an empty house is a tragic waste of his culinary genius. So, I decided to move in for a little while to enjoy his five-star meals every single day."

Katie is a massive foodie. Her greatest joy in life is sampling exquisite cuisine. Even before coming back, she practically drooled at the thought of the family chef's menu. Her visit has absolutely zero to do with worrying about her son's well-being.

Danny stares at her, utterly speechless. He should have known better than to expect overwhelming maternal affection from this woman. He just played himself.

Ignoring her, he walks over to the open kitchen island to eat his late breakfast.

"Can't you eat besides me? Why sit all the way over there?" Katie gestures for him to join her in the living area. "It's rare that I'm actually home. You can at least keep your mother company."

His house is aggressively massive; sitting too far apart makes the room feel cold and hollow. Since they aren't at the main estate enduring a stiff, formal family dinner, eating on the sofa breaks no rules.

Danny eyes her sudden burst of motherly warmth with deep suspicion. He feels a distinct trap waiting to spring. Feigning deafness, he focuses on his food while pulling out his phone to send Tara a message.

Suddenly, Katie mutters to herself in a loud, deliberate voice. "You know, I was just thinking about Tara. I absolutely adore that girl. In fact, I have a brilliant idea."

Danny, who fully intended to ignore his mother for the rest of the morning, immediately picks up his plate and closes the distance between them.
