Chapter 57

Chapter 57

Back in the VIP booth, Luke and Samuel still haven’t recovered from the shock.

“Tara, that was incredible! You have to take me on as your apprentice,” Luke begs, looking at her with absolute hero worship.

Before Tara can respond, Danny shoots Luke a deadpan look. “Apprentice? With your IQ, you could pay tuition for the rest of your life and still not learn a thing.”

Luke scoffs indignantly. “Danny, that was uncalled for!”

Sure, compared to Danny he might be slightly lacking, but still…

Samuel, knowing better than to challenge Danny, simply pours a glass of wine and hands it to Tara. “Tara, playing the fool to slaughter the arrogant… that was beautifully executed.”

“I just wanted to scare off the cowards who talk too much,” Tara replies smoothly, taking a

sip.

Luke and Samuel both grimace, exchanging a nervous look. Does… does that include them?

They originally thought Danny was the ruthless tyrant of the card table. They just wanted to play against Tara to rebuild their shattered egos. Looking back, the idea was laughably naive. Tara is even more vicious than Danny, and her poker face is flawless! Since they are basically amateurs compared to her, they only exist to be crushed.

Their eyes shine with newfound reverence as they look at her.

Danny just smiles, taking a slow sip of his drink. He loves this dominant, wildly confident side of Tara.

Meanwhile, after losing a fortune, Alec has zero desire to stay at the club. The thought of Tara taking him for millions makes him want to put his fist through a wall.

Dammit!

The second he gets home, he unloads the entire humiliating story on the Dennis family. Unsurprisingly, the room erupts into a chorus of furious curses aimed at Tara.

“Is there seriously no one who can put her in her place?” Alec snarls pacing the floor. “She thinks she’s untouchable!”

Jake remains silent for a moment before speaking up. “Tara only listens to Aunt Kellen.”

Their aunt, Kellen, married into the Rhodes family and moved overseas years ago, rarely returning. However, she has always dotted on Tara-perhaps out of respect for their late grandfather. Every time Kellen visits, she brings Tara suitcases full of gifts. When Tara went missing, Kellen searched for her like a madwoman. Once Tara was finally found, Kellen flew back and stayed for months just to keep her company, only leaving because her husband and

children needed her abroad.

But strangely, Kellen hasn’t contacted the Dennis family in a long time. Because of this silence, she still has no idea that Tara officially cut ties with the family.

“Now that you mention it, Kellen hasn’t called us in months. Do you think something happened?” their mother asks, a frown creeping onto her face. She and Kellen aren’t incredibly close, but they usually speak every few weeks. This gap in communication is highly unusual.
