Following Eleanor's sharp reprimand, the mother and son finally quiet down. "Tara!" Deanna chokes on her anger but quickly swallows it down. She reminds herself that this is her biological daughter and she needs a massive favor. Taking a deep breath, she forces a painfully sweet tone. "You're back working at Dennis Group now, so you must know that several of our major upcoming projects heavily rely on the pharmaceutical research institute. Could you put in a good word with Mr. Reeves? If he could just share his network and resources with us, it would be a game-changer."

"No," Tara replies without missing a beat.

She can see right through their transparent calculations. When there are millions of dollars on the line, they play the loving family. The moment her usefulness expires, they return to lecturing and berating her. Sometimes, she truly doubts whether she shares any blood with this woman.
