"Pardon?" Tara asks, not catching the quiet murmur.
"Oh, nothing! Come on in, let's chat before lunch," Katie says breezily, guiding her future daughter-in-law into the grand living room.
The coffee table is lined with an exquisite array of handcrafted pastries.
"Try these. Our head pastry chef is incredible. They're his specialty."
As a true foodie, Tara cannot resist the gorgeous spread. The pastries look like literal works of art. Pulling out her phone, she snaps a few quick photos.
"You have such a great eye, Tara. You make a simple cake look like a cover shot for a culinary magazine," Katie praises enthusiastically.
"It's mostly just good plating," Tara replies modestly. The desserts are so intricately designed that practically any angle looks professional.
As the two women happily chat over dessert, Danny casually strolls down the sweeping staircase from his study.
"Oh? Tara, what brings you here?" he asks, feigning mild surprise.
