"Joseph," Tara greets him warmly, genuinely surprised by her mentor's sudden appearance. He is supposed to be sequestered away in his laboratory, finalizing a new formula designed to counteract severe post-treatment side effects. Does his presence mean he finished the project early?
Joseph nods, his expression stoic but masking a deep, paternal affection that only those closest to him can detect. "I heard everything as I walked in," he says smoothly. "There is absolutely nothing wrong with Tara's prescription. The cooling properties of the herbs are perfectly balanced by warming counterparts. It won't cause any harm to the body."
His word is absolute law. No one dares question his authority—unless they possess superior expertise, and there are perhaps only three people in the entire country who fit that description. Bonnie certainly doesn't dare speak up. She is thoroughly intimidated by the renowned scientist's commanding presence, and the rest of the room falls into a respectful silence.
He walks over to inspect Lindsay's condition alongside Tara. The elderly woman isn't just coughing up dark clots anymore; she is expelling bright red blood. It is a startling sight. A basin is already filled with a mixture of dark, congested fluid and fresh crimson streaks.
Yet, Lindsay's complexion has dramatically improved, the ashen gray replaced by a healthy, radiant glow. Tara swiftly applies a few more acupuncture needles. Moments later, Lindsay groans softly and flutters her eyes open.
A wave of amazement sweeps through the room. It feels miraculous to watch a patient wake up from such a critical state without enduring a single surgical incision. Even with the blood loss, it is infinitely better than cracking her skull open on an operating table.
"Mom, how are you feeling?" Zoey asks, rushing to her side. As a daughter living far abroad, building a life with her husband, she rarely finds the time to visit. Money and flights are never the issue—it is simply the relentless demands of her schedule. Seeing her mother pull through the crisis brings a sudden lump to her throat, her eyes shining with unshed tears.
"I'm alright, just a bit exhausted," Lindsay whispers before drifting back into a peaceful sleep.
