Julianna's elegant expression stiffens, a flash of pure hostility burning in her eyes at having her gesture ruined. The hostility intensifies tenfold when her gaze drops and she sees Danny's hand firmly wrapped around Tara's.
She masks her fury in a fraction of a second, replacing it with a flawless look of apologetic innocence.
"My apologies," Julianna says softly. "I didn't realize your prescription was quite that restrictive. In general pharmacology, leaving a two-hour window between tea and medication is perfectly safe."
Julianna prides herself on her own medical expertise, and she subtly implies that Tara is being overly dramatic just to single her out.
"That depends entirely on the specific formulation of the drugs," Tara fires back, her tone steady and unyielding. She detests passive-aggressive behavior. "As someone celebrated in the research field, I'd expect you to understand the necessity of strict compliance."
"Tara is absolutely right," Zoey chimes in, firmly taking Tara's side. "You need to listen to her, Julianna. She is your grandmother's primary physician now. Besides, she is Joseph's personal apprentice. Her word is gold."
Zoey has become one of Tara's biggest advocates, trusting the girl implicitly with her mother's life.
The praise feels like a slap to Julianna's face, but she swallows the bitter resentment. "You're right, Aunt Zoey. I was careless. I'll be more mindful," she concedes gracefully.
