Katie can't stand the sudden tension. "Let's head inside," she urges, practically vibrating with excitement to see her son work his magic in the kitchen. Or rather, to force Tara to watch her future husband be useful.

The group moves into the massive living area just as the estate's delivery gates open. The driver, dispatched to ferry their massive market haul, pulls up.

The head butler and the household staff immediately jump into action, working up a sweat as they haul crates of fresh produce, premium seafood, and poultry toward the main industrial kitchens. Only a select few crates of specific ingredients are routed to the sleek, gourmet open-concept kitchen facing the living room.

"Good lord, what on earth is happening? Why did you buy half a grocery store?" Catherine gasps, her eyes wide with shock. Despite her decades of high-society living, the sheer volume of food is staggering.

No matter how vast the Calhoun estate is, you don't buy food like this unless you're feeding an entire village.

"Mom, you just don't get it," Katie says, waving a hand dismissively. "The vendors were so sweet and talkative. Danny got into a great mood and just bought them out."

Katie doesn't blame Catherine for being out of touch. She simply hasn't experienced the vibrant, chaotic joy of a real market in her life.

"You don't just buy a mountain of food on a whim! Honestly, Katie, you spend all your time locked in that pharmaceutical lab. You have absolutely no concept of how the real world operates," Catherine scoffs, rolling her eyes so hard she practically strains a muscle.

"Neither do you, Mom," Katie fires back smoothly, totally unfazed.

At least Katie has been to a working-class market twice now. Catherine hasn't stepped foot in one ever.

Refusing to waste another second bickering, Katie hurries over to the open kitchen to watch her son prep.
