"Okay, I understand, Alec," Jade replies, her chest tight with frustration.
The next item isn't dried herbs, but a highly coveted, live medicinal plant. It is a foreign species, incredibly rare, and capable of being cultivated.
Both Tara and Katie instantly light up. The moment the host announces the starting bid, Tara's paddle shoots up. A few others join in, but since botany is a niche field, the competition is sparse.
This time, Jade and Alec are absolutely convinced it is another trap. They assume Tara is just faking her enthusiasm to scam them again, so they refuse to raise their paddles. Consequently, Tara wins the rare plant for a very reasonable price.
"They probably thought I was setting them up again, so they didn't bid. Saved us a fortune," Tara remarks, thoroughly pleased. She was genuinely determined to win this plant and was fully prepared for a vicious bidding war with those two idiots. She never expected it to be this effortless. Tsk. Toying with them earlier was definitely the right move.
"Haha, even if we had to fight for it, we have more than enough to crush them," Katie declares with billionaire bravado. "This plant is incredibly useful. If we can successfully cultivate it, we won't have to spend a fortune begging suppliers anymore."
"Don't worry, Katie. I'm completely confident I can transplant it successfully."
Both women are thrilled with their haul. Across the room, Jade is once again on the verge of a meltdown.
Several more eccentric items go up for auction, but neither Tara nor Jade bid on them. Jade's initial plan to ruthlessly crush Tara has completely deflated. She thought having Alec as her personal ATM would allow her to step on Tara's neck, but she didn't account for Katie backing Tara. Who can outspend the Calhoun family? Especially when they are this aggressively generous?
