"Exactly! Gregory is an incredibly honorable and visionary man," Jovani chimes in, gazing at Gregory with sickening adoration. To her, this monster is the epitome of perfection and power.
"Enough stalling. Hand over the item. It's the smartest move for everyone involved," Gregory says, his patience wearing thin.
"You get the item when your real master steps out of the shadows," Charles demands, refusing to yield. He came here to uncover the true identity of the mastermind, and he isn't leaving without it.
"You're making a lot of demands for a man holding empty air," Gregory sneers. "For all I know, you don't even have it on you."
Without breaking eye contact, Charles reaches into his coat and pulls out a heavily aged, intricately carved wooden box. It practically radiates history and importance.
Gregory and Jovani's eyes immediately lock onto it, greedy anticipation flashing across their faces.
Charles takes three calculated steps backward. "If anyone makes a sudden move, I will destroy this box and myself right along with it."
"Relax, Charles. No one is going to hurt you," Gregory says, taking a soothing step forward. "That object is completely useless to you. Why protect it with your life? Just hand it over."
Gregory's gaze is practically glued to the box. The shadow organization has spent decades orchestrating assassinations, bribing officials, and planting moles inside the Dennis Group just to secure it.
"Giving it to you guarantees more innocent people die. I'm done talking," Charles barks. "I know the real boss is watching right now. If he doesn't show his face in the next ten seconds, I smash this box to pieces!"
Charles is backed into a corner. His family is in ruins, his company is bleeding, and this is his final, desperate gambit. Gregory and Jovani tense, knowing he has absolutely nothing left to lose.
