"Sure, ruining someone else's relationship isn't exactly classy, but don't you have to fight for your own happiness? If you can successfully steal her away, it just proves their relationship wasn't that strong to begin with and that she still has feelings for you!" Alec insists.
"Heh. You talk a big game. Why don't you apply that logic to your own life?" Jake shoots him a sarcastic smirk. "Tricia is practically Tara's best friend. Why don't you go ask her for help?"
Hearing Tricia's name is a swift blow to Alec's pride. That woman isn't soft-spoken like Lucinda. Every time she sees him, she unleashes a barrage of mocking insults. Recently, she even laughed right in his face, clapping and congratulating him for being played like a total fool by Jade. That infuriating woman!
The more Alec thinks about it, the more it stings. When it comes to knowing exactly where to strike, Jake really is a cunning bastard.
"I'm lucky if she doesn't throw me out the second she sees me. Don't even try to set me up for a trap," Alec grumbles.
"I'm not trapping you. I'm helping you, little brother," Jake says, sitting up straight and adopting a deadpan, serious expression. "Isn't Tricia still single right now? As long as she's single, you have a chance. Think about it. If you manage to win her back—and considering she's Tara's best friend—do you really think Tara would keep treating you like you don't exist once you're dating her?"
Out of the three brothers, Alec is by far the most single-minded. After hearing Jake's persuasive logic, he actually feels a spark of temptation. It sounds like a solid plan.
"So... I should give it a try?" Alec asks. In truth, he still harbors feelings for Tricia. Now that he's fully awake to reality and remembers that their messy breakup was orchestrated by Jade, the regret practically eats him alive.
