Chapter 79

Nobody dares to make a sound. The fear of being publicly humiliated by the authenticators keeps them glued to their chairs, avoiding eye contact at all costs.

Jade is suffocating in regret. Bringing Tara to this table was the worst mistake of her life. By exposing these girls, Tara hasn’t just insulted them-she has turned the entire socialite circle into a laughingstock. And since they are sisters, Jade knows the backlash will inevitably fall

on her.

Panicking, Jade lunges forward and grabs Tara’s arm, her voice a frantic, vicious whisper. “Are you insane? You just offended everyone that matters! How am I supposed to survive in this circle now?”

Tara easily shakes off her grip, a wicked smile playing on her lips. “Why so tense, Jade? Oh silly me. I completely forgot to appraise your outfit.”

Jade’s face goes ghostly white. Her hand flies up to instinctively cover her massive diamond drop earrings.

The micro-expression doesn’t escape Tara. She laughs softly and reaches out, gently pulling Jade’s hand away from her ear. “Let’s see what gorgeous gems my sweet sister decided to wear tonight.”

“Don’t touch me!” Jade screeches, trying to pull away.

“The refractive index on these stones is completely wrong,” Tara says, her voice carrying over the music. “These are moissanite.” She gasps, feigning absolute shock. “Oh my god. You wear fakes too? Well, birds of a feather flock together, I suppose!”

The surrounding tables erupt into whispers.

Jade feels the world spinning violently around her. The flawless, wealthy socialite image she spent years meticulously crafting shatters into a million pieces on the marble floor.

“No… no, it’s not true,” Jade stammers, tears welling in her eyes. “She doesn’t know what she’s talking about! She doesn’t know anything about jewelry! Don’t listen to her!”

Pearl stands up, glaring at Jade with pure venom. “The only reason we let her sit with us is because you asked. Stay the hell away from her, Jade.”

Jade shrinks back, her voice trembling. “I’m so sorry, everyone.”

She mentally curses Tara to the depths of hell.

Tara watches the entire meltdown with cold indifference. These girls are all exactly the same-vain, cruel, and pathetic.

“Alright, ladies and gentlemen, let the auction begin!” the host announces from the stage,

mercifully breaking the tension.

“Our first item of the night,” the auctioneer calls out. “A vintage cobalt-blue vase!”

The crowd immediately starts whispering, paddles ready.

Keira leans over. “What do you think?”

“Fake,” Tara replies, not even bothering to look up from her phone. “The cobalt pigment on an authentic piece from that era is much deeper and more muted. The color on that thing is way too bright.”

“Wow. They really are just throwing their money away,” Keira scoffs.

Tara nods silently. Fools and their money are easily parted. A man in the front row aggressively bids and wins the fake vase. Tara keeps her mouth shut. It is a charity event, after all. If these people want to overpay for garbage to feel good about themselves, let
