Chapter 81
Chapter 81
Keira hurries after her cousin, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. “Are you sure that necklace is a fake?”
Tara chuckles lightly. “Of course it is. But since she wants it so badly, she can have it. I intended to give that money to charity, but she just couldn’t resist stealing the spotlight.”
Realization dawns on Keira’s face. “So you knew it was a knockoff the whole time! You intentionally drove up the price to humiliate Jade.”
Tara doesn’t answer, but the glacial look in her eyes says it all. Jade is getting exactly what
she deserves.
Nearby, a gala staff member approaches Jade, shattering her frozen shock. “Ms. Dennis, please finalize your payment now.”
Jade’s face drains of all color. Where is she supposed to get fifteen million dollars? If her father finds out about this, she is dead. With no other options, she bites the bullet and pulls out her phone, her hands trembling so badly she can barely dial her eldest brother’s number.
While waiting for Jake to arrive, Jade slumps into a chair in the VIP room. The harsh whispers of the surrounding socialites echo in her ears.
“I heard the Dennis family’s cash flow has been tight lately.”
“She can’t even scrape together fifteen million…”
“I bet those earrings she’s wearing are fake too.”
“What an idiot. Dropping millions on a cheap replica? What was she thinking?”
Every mocking word feels like a physical blow. A suffocating wave of humiliation crashes over her. Even if it is a fake, she has to swallow her pride and pay for it under the guise of philanthropy. But it is fifteen million dollars! The sheer loss of that much money makes her stomach churn. She could have bought endless designer wardrobes and handbags with that
amount.
This is all Tara’s fault. That bitch deliberately set her up to look like a desperate, foolish clown! Jade vows silently, her nails digging fiercely into her designer clutch: Tara, I am going to make you pay for this.
She stares dagger-holes into the VIP room doors, waiting.
“Jade!” Jake finally bursts into the room, his expression terrifyingly dark. “What the hell is going on?”
Her frantic phone call had made no sense. This is The Debutante Charity Gala-why on earth is she calling him for a financial rescue?

Jake sweeps a cold, warning glare over the whispering crowd. “Let’s handle the payment first.”
