But all of those warm memories were completely shattered the moment Jade entered their lives.
Seeing her silence, Eleanor gently pats her hand and sighs. "Tara, I know you still have a knot in your heart. But blood ties aren't easily severed."
Kellen joins in. "Your grandmother is right. No matter what happened, she's still your mother. This engagement is a massive event, and having her by your side will take a lot of weight off your shoulders. Sometimes, if a mother and daughter just lay everything out in the open, the resentment starts to fade."
Tara looks up, meeting their hopeful gazes. A complex wave of emotion washes over her. She knows they mean well, and she senses that Deanna might truly feel remorse. But the scars run incredibly deep; a simple 'let's make up' isn't enough to heal the damage.
"I... I understand," Tara replies, her voice barely above a whisper. She pauses, as if making a quiet resolution. "I'll give it some serious thought."
Hearing her promise, Eleanor and Kellen drop the subject. They know Tara is an independent woman with a strong mind of her own. After a cheerful lunch, Tara heads back to the Dennis Corporation.
She barely settles into her office chair when her phone rings. It is Deanna.
