Hearing her mother so desperate to contribute, Tara finds that the rejection she initially planned to deliver gets caught in her throat. Her heart softens just enough to let her say, "Sure, that's fine."
Those three simple words hit Deanna like a tidal wave of pure joy. She is so thrilled she can barely form a coherent sentence. "R-really? That... that's wonderful!"
Deanna hardly dares to hope for a total reconciliation. Whether Tara is softening out of respect for her late father or genuinely giving her a second chance, this small opening is enough to make Deanna's heart soar.
"Well, then... when do you think we could meet up to discuss the details?" Deanna presses her luck, her tone overflowing with cautious optimism. She speaks quickly, terrified Tara might change her mind at any second.
Sensing her mother's desperate eagerness, the lingering stiffness in Tara's chest eases just a fraction. She thinks for a moment before replying, "Danny and I are both swamped this week. Let's aim for next weekend. We can pick a spot and talk then."
"Yes, absolutely! Just let me know the exact time. It's not a problem at all!" Deanna agrees instantly, treating the promise like a fragile piece of glass. "Should I... should I send you a reminder beforehand?"
"It's fine, I won't forget," Tara assures her, feeling a flicker of sympathy at how terrified her mother sounds.
