Chapter 159 Let’s Go

Chapter 159 Let’s Go

‘Damn, I only glanced twice and it nearly scared me out of my wits!’ The trainees thought as they went away.

Natalie asked, “What is it?”

Henry lowered his head a bit, hesitated, considering his words, but stayed silent for several seconds.

Natalie was about to turn and leave, but Henry suddenly spoke up.

“I used to be way better than this. I just haven’t trained in ages…”

He was really disappointed with his performance today. Even though he stuck around, he couldn’t stand how out of shape he was.

Natalie cocked her head. “So?”

Henry took two steps forward, his gaze intense. “I’ll get stronger. I’ll catch up to you.”

Natalie just said “Oh,” then turned and walked away.

Henry didn’t call out to her. He watched her leave in silence, only turning back once she was out of sight.

He knew she wouldn’t look back. She never waited for anyone.

She wanted him to chase after her, not for her to stop.

In the days that followed, Henry acted as if he was determined to prove his words.

Every morning at four, before the whistle even sounded, he was already out on the training field.

His training uniform went from crisp and new to faded and worn. His wounds would heal, only to break open again, and then heal once more.

Every day, besides the regular training, he added extra sessions for himself.

By the first week’s evaluation, he ranked fourth overall.

The second week, third. Third week, second. Fourth week, first. By the fifth week, he left everyone else in the dust.

Everyone was blown away by how fast he improved, but for Henry, this wasn’t progress. It was just reclaiming what he’d

lost.

By late August, after all the eliminations, only twenty-five people were left standing in the training camp. These were the last survivors from this year’s group.

After all that hellish training, their bodies and skills were up to the final standard

Natalie stood at the front of the squad, watching them.

“The training camp is almost over, and the training is done.

“For the final test, you can challenge me or Noah. If you win, you get to take our place!”

After she finished talking, everyone on the field exchanged nervous glances

‘Challenge Natalie? Seriously? Is this some kind of joke?

‘We’ve only been training for two months, and she’s been doing this for nine years. How are we supposed to stand a chance?’

After two months, the only thing they’d figured out about Natalie was that she was someone you admired from a distance. Get too close, and you’d get burned. She was like a living grim reaper, and everyone knew better than to mess with her.

Sebastian kept his head down, staring at his hands.

His right wrist was still wrapped in bandages. He remembered the day two weeks ago when he’d tried to challenge Natalie in a fight.

He’d thrown a punch, and the next thing he knew, he was lying flat on the ground.

He hadn’t even seen how she’d moved. He didn’t want to try again. Not because he was afraid of losing, but because he couldn’t stand losing without even knowing how he lost.

Madison pressed his lips together, remembering the time he’d challenged Natalie in shooting. He’d been lying down, steady as he could be, and got a perfect score. She stood up and shot a perfect score, too.

He didn’t want a rematch. He knew he’d just lose again.

It wasn’t that he wasn’t improving; it was that she was improving, too.

He ran, she ran. He trained, she trained. He got faster, she got faster.

She was always ahead, and he was always behind.

Noah raised an eyebrow at the group. ‘Still no one brave enough to step up this year?’

The next second, Henry took a step forward.

Blondie blinked, settling in for the show.

Noah straightened up, ready for action.

Natalie nodded. “Let’s go.”

All the skill-based subjects are up for grabs in this challenge.

Fighting, shooting, tactics, and fitness.

Long story short, Henry beat Noah, but lost to Natalie.

During the fight, Noah’s punches packed more weight and he was more seasoned, but Henry was quicker, no contest.

Henry read him like a book. Before Noah even threw a punch, Henry had already spotted the tell in his shoulders.

Henry dodged the first three punches, and on the fourth, he met Noah’s fist head-on. Their knuckles slammed together, the sound of bone on bone echoing across the field, so sharp it made everyone’s teeth ache.

Noah’s brow furrowed, and Henry’s did too.

Both of them were hurting, but neither backed down.

Henry landed a punch right under Noah’s ribs, not the hardest hit, but the placement was perfect.

Noah kept backing up until he stepped out of the ring.

He lost.

When Henry went up against Natalie, they barely managed to spar for a dozen moves before he ended up losing to her. No matter how hard he tried, Natalie still came out on top.

He just couldn’t get a read on her game plan. She always caught him off guard.

During the shooting challenge, Noah scored a perfect fifty in the prone position, while Henry and Natalie both nailed a perfect fifty standing up.

Same score, but the difficulty level was totally different.

Noah lost, and Natalie and Henry tied.
