Natalie was immersed in her own world, her mind clear and empty, as if all the chaos of the outside world had nothing to do with her.
She finished the set of martial arts and brought her movements to a close.
She let out a long, slow breath. Fine beads of sweat lined her forehead, but her breathing had already returned to a steady rhythm.
When she opened her eyes, they were crystal clear, as if washed by the morning dew.
Wiping away the sweat with a towel, she walked to the table and picked up her silent phone.
A message from Blondie flashed on the screen: [Boss, your five brothers are camping out in my room, staring at the door waiting for you to come out.]
Natalie texed back with two words: [Coming now]
She hopped in the shower for a quick rinse, changed into simple, clean clothes, and dried her long brown hair until it was damp, letting it fall loosely over her shoulders.
Knock, knock, knock.
The five Mitchell brothers stood up in unison-swift, yet somehow still elegant.
Their eyes locked onto the door, and they instinctively held their breath.
Blondie, being closest to the door, glanced at the five men who had suddenly gone into “high alert” mode. He rubbed his nose and pulled the door open.
Natalie stood outside, fully prepared.
She wore a simple, slim-fit black top and light green high-waisted wide-leg pants, a backpack dangling from one hand.
Her damp, slightly wavy hair made her skin look even paler and her features more aloof.
Her expression was calm as her clear gaze swept across the room.
“I’m ready to go,” Natalie said.
Her voice wasn’t loud, but it reached everyone’s ears clearly.
“Good. The car is waiting outside.”
Blake Mitchell’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he stepped forward to take her bag.

“No, I’ll carry it myself,” Natalie said, her voice steady but polite.
Seeing her refusal, Blake slowly withdrew his hand and didn’t press further.
Natalie turned to walk out, with the others following closely behind.

Jason Mitchell had somehow moved to Natalie’s side. He had styled his hair today into a sleek swept-back look that accentuated his handsome features. He seemed less like a flashy superstar and more like a steady. gentle older brother.
Walking beside her, his tall frame leaned in slightly.
“Sis, what do you want for breakfast? We have snacks in the car in case you get hungry on the way.”
Jason kept his voice very soft.
“Anything is fine. I’m not picky.”
Natalie replied without slowing her pace.
Ryan trailed behind them. Seeing Jason’s careful, tender demeanor made him feel both envious and a little salty.

But with Blake, Ethan, and Andrew all there, he had to wait his turn.
When they got into the elevator, the once-spacious cabin suddenly felt cramped with six tall men packed inside.
The Mitchell brothers averaged over six feet tall. Standing in the middle, Natalie was completely surrounded by her five towering brothers.
Blondie, squeezed into a corner, looked left and right and swallowed hard.
‘The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,’ he thought. ‘They have the exact same aura as the Boss. Normal people couldn’t handle this.
Her slim figure looked delicate among them, yet she didn’t seem weak at all. Her back was straight, her expression composed.
“Natalie, do we need to pick up the rest of your luggage?” Andrew asked, noticing she only had one backpack.
“No, that’s all,” Natalie replied.
Hearing this, a flash of hidden pain crossed Andrew’s deep eyes. He swallowed hard to suppress the sudden wave of bitterness in his heart.
The others also fell silent for a moment. They looked at Natalie and the small black backpack on her shoulder, their eyes filled with identical heartache.

Chapter 17
Nineteen years.
Their sister had been out there for nineteen long years.
In the end, all she had to show for it was one simple backpack.
How much could possibly be in there?
It felt like a giant hand was squeezing their hearts. Guilt washed over them like a tide.
They were late.
Far too late.
