Chapter 215 Blake’s Svåred
“How many guys are we taking this afternoon? Want me to send someone to scope it out first?”
Wake stout up from the couch. “No need Just you and me.”
Cart blinked, pointing at himself. “Just us two?”
Blake nodded. “Yeah.”
Carl licked his lips, thinking, ‘Boss’s gone crazy. She’s sending us to get killed!’
They’d swiped the Phoenix Syndicate’s goods this morning, and who knows how many guys they’d bring this afternoon, ready to chop them up.
If I just tag along, what if I don’t make it back alive? Carl wondered
He hadn’t even gotten married yet!
But Carl only dared to think that in his head. On the outside, he just put on his usual “whatever Boss says goes” face. He’d been with his boss for years. He owed her his life. If his boss told him to jump into a pot of boiling oil, he’d do it without a second thought, but he’d never turn on her, not even if his life depended on it.
“I’ll go get the car,” Carl said.
He turned and walked out of the office.
In the hallway, Carl pulled out his phone, hesitated for a moment, then sent a message to Zachary Singh.
[Phoenix Syndicate wants to meet at the old dock on the west side at 2 PM. Boss’s just taking me. Be ready to cover us.]
**
At 2 PM, Carl pulled up to the old dock on the west side right on time.
The sun was blazing, making the concrete ground shimmer with a blinding glare.
The dock had been abandoned for ages, with a few rusted cargo ships left stranded along the shore.
The wind carried the stench of saltwater and rust, mixing into a pretty nasty smell.
Carl parked next to an abandoned warehouse, cut the engine, and checked on Blake in the rearview mirror, who was sitting
in the back seat.
Blake had his eyes closed, drumming his fingers lightly on his thigh.
“We’re here, boss,” Carl said.
Blake opened his eyes. Sunlight hit his face through the window, making him squint. He opened the door and got out. The sea breeze whipped his shirt, making it snap in the wind. He fastened the top button, his eyes sweeping over the dock like a predator entering unfamiliar territory, alert, composed, and poised to attack at a moment’s notice.
He had a gun tucked into his waistband at the back, concealed beneath his shirt.
He didn’t want to use it, but if it came down to it, he wouldn’t think twice
Carl grabbed two pistols from the trunk and tucked them into his waistband, his eyes scanning the surroundings, alert. They stood in the open space of the dock, and less than two minutes later, a black Audi pulled in through the entrance. Carl instinctively reached for the gun at his back, stepping half a pace forward to shield Blake.
Blake didn’t move, his dark eyes narrowing dangerously as he watched the black Audi.
The car shut off, and the driver’s door swung open. A towering man in a black suit stepped out, his features well-defined and his face impassive. He completely ignored them, just turned around and opened the back door.
Carl’s breath caught in his throat.
