Chapter 237
As soon as Iris finished speaking the whole gym went dead silent.
“Cheats
“Come on, it’s just a small tournament. Who’d bother with that?”
“Hard to say. A new account pulling off moves like that? That’s not normal.”
“Yeah, and with Ethan watching, maybe she’s just trying to catch his eye.”
“Don’t just spread rumors. Do you have any proof? What’s wrong with a pro playing on a smurf account?”
“Are you just running your damn mouth for no reason?”
Evan launched himself straight at Iris. “You’ve been dragging us down all game, and now you’re spreading rumors? You g death wish or something?”
The people nearby, seeing Evan storming over, hurried to hold him back, worried he’d cause a scene in front of everyon
Iris took two steps back, her eyes darting nervously, but she still forced herself to speak up. “If she’s not cheating, then wh else could it be?
“You guys are all Platinum V or higher, and she’s just a newbie account, yet she’s totally crushing you?
“I’ve played with her for ages, and she’s never played like this before. If you don’t believe me, ask anyone in the Physics Department. They’ll tell you!”
Iris clenched her fists. No way she was buying that Natalie was this good. There had to be something fishy going on.
Now that she’d said it, there was no turning back. She was determined to tear off Natalie’s facade and expose her for who s really was.
‘Why should I work so hard and rely on real skill, only for her to get ahead of me by cheating?’ Iris thought angrily.
All my plans are ruined. It’s all because of Natalie!’
Evan frowned, about to say something, when Natalie turned around.
Hands shoved in her pockets, Natalie tilted her head, her face totally unreadable, cool and unbotherdd as she stared at Iris. She didn’t say a word, but Iris felt like she was suffocating under that gaze.
Iris felt goosebumps all over as Natalie locked eyes with her, and she instinctively swallowed. “W-Why are you staring at me? I’m just telling the truth, aren’t I?”
“Truth? Is that what you’re calling it now?” Natalie said, a smile on her lips that never reached her eyes.
“Alright, you think I’m using cheats? Then show me your proof.”
“Fine, let’s have someone check your computer!” !ris shot back.
She jabbed her finger at the computer Natalie had just used.
Natalie raised her hand. “Sure, check it if you want. But if nothing turns up, what are you gonna do?”
wasi sugh of quard for a serond, then blurted out. There’s no way nothing shows up.
“If nothing’s found then then apologize to you.”
“An apology Lake I need your lousy apology? If spreading rumors and then just sing sorry is all it takes, why even bother having cops Natale shot back
Blondie walked up slowly from the audience and came to a stop right next to Natalie.
Iris was left speechless by their words, her face flushed with embarrassment. “So… what do you guys want?”
Blondie grinned innocently, running a hand through his platinum hair. What else can we do? Obviously, we call the police
Iris gritted her teeth. “Don’t think you can scare me with the cops. There’s gotta be something fishy on your computer.”
The officials had already come up on stage and started inspecting the computer Natalie had just used.
The big screen was showing everything they were doing in real time, system logs, background processes, file directories, going through everything line by line.
The stands went dead silent, everyone glued to the big screen, waiting for the results.
After about five or six minutes, the head official took off his headphones, turned around, and faced the stands.
‘Alright, we checked. No cheats, nothing shady on the computer. System logs are clean, background processes are normal, game files untouched. Natalie Moore played fair, no violations,” he announced.
Iris’s legs nearly gave out, her face full of disbelief. She gripped the edge of her shirt so hard her knuckles turned white.
No way she muttered.
She took two shaky steps forward, staring at the computer, still unable to believe it was totally clean.
“How can there be nothing? She has to be cheating! If you don’t believe me, ask Adriel. Natalie’s always just skating by on the team, there’s no way she could pull this off…”. Iris insisted.
Adriel frowned at her. “What’s so impossible about it? They checked everything, and there’s nothing.”
Nolan chimed in, “Yeah, you’re usually pretty good too, but today you just messed up, didn’t you?”
Ins ignored them, suddenly snapping her head toward Natalie with a look of sudden realization.
“She must’ve pulled out the USB drive!” Iris blurted out, her voice sharp and shaky, like she was trying to convince herself more than anyone else.
Yeah, she yanked it out right after the match! That’s why you can’t find anything now! Search her. She’s gotta be hiding it somewhere” Inis insisted, her voice trembling with desperation
She sabbed a finger at Natalie, her hand shaking.
The crowd in the stands watched as Iris’s logic got more and more ridiculous, everyone just dumbfounded.
Ts she nuts or what?”
