Chapter 258 Life Sentence?
“Mom? What are you doing here?”
A male voice came from behind. Ellott jogged over to them.
“Eliott? What are you doing here?” Mrs. Rogers asked.
Eliott looked a bit annoyed. “Why did you come here alone? You should’ve let me take care of things for
Isabelle.”
As he spoke, Eliott glanced to the side and only then noticed Natalie standing there. “Why are you with my mom?”
Mrs. Rogers was taken aback. “Eliott, you two… know each other?”
Eliott looked away, feeling awkward. “She’s the one who used to be Isabelle’s family’s daughter, Natalie Moore.” Mrs. Rogers stared at Natalie in disbelief. “You… you’re Natalie Moore?”
Natalie looked at her, neither confirming nor denying it. She just shot her a glance and kept walking, not planning to say anything more.
Mrs. Rogers rushed forward to block her, her face desperate. “Please, Natalie, don’t leave! You’re a good person, I’m begging you. Please help Isabelle!
“She’s just a kid, she can’t go to jail!”
Natalie frowned. “Step aside.”
Mrs. Rogers had finally found Natalie, and there was no way she was letting her go now.
She clung tightly to Natalie, blocking her way and refusing to let her leave. Other students stopped to watch the scene unfold.
Eliott was totally lost. “What’s going on, Mom? What does any of this have to do with her?”
Mrs. Rogers was so desperate she started crying. “Isabelle said… she said the Grant family ended up in jail because of her. We have to plead with her if we want your sister to be released.”
Eliott frowned. “Was it you? Even if something happened to the Grant family, what does that have to do with my sister? She’s only been back for a few months. How could you be so cruel? Why do you hate her?” The crowd kept growing, and people were whispering and gossiping nonstop.
“Isn’t that the campus beauty? What’s happening?”
“Did that guy just call her cruel? What’s that about?”
“No idea, let’s just listen.”
“I think it’s about the Grant family, the one that was in the news recently. Remember them?”
“The Grant family? The one from Seaside City? The one that went broke?”
“Yeah, that’s the one. I heard the whole family got locked up.”
“Is he saying the campus queen was behind it? No way!”
“I heard she used to be the Grant family’s adopted daughter. After they kicked her out, she went back to the Mitchell family.”
Natalie kept a blank face, not wanting to waste any more time with them. She shook Mrs. Rogers off, and Mrs. Rogers lost her balance, falling to the ground.
But Mrs. Rogers immediately scrambled back up and clung to Natalie’s leg, refusing to let her go.
“I’m begging you, Miss Moore! No matter what Isabelle did, she’s still just a kid. Her life is just starting. She can’t go to jail, it would ruin her forever!
“Please, have mercy! Let her out, I’m begging you. I’ll get down on my knees and beg if I have to!”
As Mrs. Rogers was about to kneel, Eliott quickly caught her before her knees could even touch the ground.
“Mom, what are you doing? Come on, get up!” Eliott said.
He looked up at Natalie, a complicated look flashing in his eyes.
He gritted his teeth and suddenly raised his voice. “Natalie, just because you’re doing well now doesn’t mean you can treat people like this! My mom’s not young anymore. How could you push her?”
His voice was loud enough for everyone nearby to hear.
The crowd got restless again.
“Still, you can’t just push someone like that.”
“That poor lady, kneeling and begging at her age.”
“I have no idea what’s going on, but it looks really sad.”
“Are you guys blind? That old woman knelt down herself. What does that have to do with the campus queen?” Seeing people backing him up, Eliott raised his voice even more.
“You already got my sister’s whole family locked up. Isn’t that enough? My mom just came to ask you for help, and you shoved her?” Eliott shouted.
As he spoke, his eyes were red and his voice was trembling, sounding like a son pushed to the edge, fighting for his mom and sister.
Natalie kept her hands in her pockets, shooting him a cold glare. “Was I the one who made them dodge taxes? Was I the one who told them to fake the accounts? Was I the one who made her steal?”
“That’s ridiculous! My sister would never steal!” Eliott snapped, his face twisted with anger.
He glared at her. “How could you just make up these lies and spread rumors about her?”
“Ever since my sister came back to the Grant family, you’ve been doing everything you can to exclude her and bully her. I don’t know what your problem is with her, but you won’t stop until you’ve ruined her life!”
Mrs. Rogers was sobbing, her voice choked with tears. “That’s right, Miss Moore! Isabelle would never steal anything!
“Even if, just, just for argument’s sake, she did take something from you, does she really deserve a life sentence for that?”
The crowd erupted in shock. “What? A life sentence?”
“Whoa, what did she steal? For a life sentence, the amount must be over 150 thousand dollars!”
“No idea, but that’s seriously harsh!”
“Seriously? That can’t be real! She’s a rich heiress. There’s no way she’d steal something worth that much!” “Steal what?” Natalie narrowed her eyes, letting out a mocking laugh. “She didn’t tell you what she stole?”
Mrs. Rogers shook her head, her lips trembling.
“She didn’t just steal. She stole from someone’s grave. The total is over 1.5 million dollars,” Natalie said coldly. Everyone was in an uproar.
“Digging up a grave? That’s seriously messed up!”
“No wonder the whole family got locked up. This is a criminal offense!”
“That guy was just saying the campus queen was framing her, but it turns out it’s all true!”
Mrs. Rogers’s face went ghostly pale, like a sheet of paper.
She clung to Eliott’s arm, her fingers trembling.
“Eliott, your sister… she really… no, that can’t be true! How could she?” Mrs. Rogers stammered, her voice shaking.
