The man turned around slowly.
Backlit by the sun, his features looked sharp and deeply cut. Gray streaked his temples. He shot her a cold look.
“Stay out of it.”
Sasha walked over to him with a slight limp and slipped both arms around his neck.
“You haven’t seen her in so long. I let you catch a glimpse of her from a distance, and you’re still not happy?”
The man pulled her hands away.
“Don’t pull something like this again.”

The Eco Park was hosting a half marathon that day, and Winter was there to cover the race.
Before the station car had even reached the venue, she could already see runners everywhere. Even from a distance, the whole scene was bursting with life.
Halfway through the event, Winter stood off to the side with a bottle of water in her hand. Not far away, she spotted an elderly man collecting empty bottles. After finishing the last third of her water, she walked over and handed him the bottle.
“Thank you,” the old man said.
Winter smiled and shook her head.
Then, all of a sudden, a chill ran down her spine.
A strange sense of dread rose inside her, as if something bad was about to happen.
Right then, she heard someone nearby exclaim, “Oh my God. Chris Xander is under investigation!”
“What happened? What happened?”
Several people immediately crowded around a phone to read the news.
“They’re saying drugs were found connected to him, and someone overdosed at one of his clubs…”
Five minutes earlier, in her hospital room, a nurse had pulled the privacy curtain around the bed and picked up Skyla’s clothes to help her get changed.
Skyla watched her coolly.
Just then, the phone on her nightstand buzzed with a news alert.
