The doctor’s voice snapped Skyla out of her thoughts. Her eyes turned cold as she looked at him, without a trace of warmth.

He walked toward her, not noticing anything strange.

Her voice was hoarse, and her words came out rough and blurred. “Where’s Chris?”

“Let me examine you first. Are you still feeling unwell anywhere…”

“Tasked you where Chris is!” Skyla suddenly raised her voice, though she was still extremely weak from the blood loss. Even so, the coldness coming off her was enough to make the doctor uneasy.

He instinctively took a step back.

He was not one of the doctors from the top–floor ICU. He was Skyla’s attending physician, the one who had been treating her anemia, so he had more contact with her than most people did.

This version of Skyla felt completely unfamiliar to him.

There was something dark about her now, something almost unstable.

Skyla clenched the bedsheet tightly beneath her, staring at him with sharp, furious eyes. “Answer me!”

The doctor swallowed. “I’m sorry, Ms. Jasper. I haven’t seen Mr. Xander. I don’t know where he is.”

Gavin stood in the doorway, tall and expressionless.
