The Scorned Heiress's Hidden Empire (by Jade Quinn) novel Chapter 363

Chapter 363

After Skyla finished speaking, the basement went so quiet that not even a breath could be heard.

It was deathly still.

Chris stood on the steps, his shadow stretched long by the light. It reached across the wall and fell into the corner.

Ash gathered at the end of his cigarette, then scattered, revealing a small ember of red.

There was not a trace of emotion on his face. He held the cigarette between his fingers and tapped it lightly against the stair railing, exposing the glowing tip.

It seemed to burn Skyla’s eyes.

She narrowed her eyes slightly and pressed her lips together, trying to read something from his face. But this man never let anything show. His thoughts had always been impossible to reach.

She had never been able to understand him before.

Now, she couldn’t glimpse even the smallest trace of what he was thinking.

“Chris, are you hesitating?”

Anyone who could make Chris care this much had to be extremely important to him. In this world, aside from his late grandmother, there was only Winter.

But Winter’s body was fine.

Skyla couldn’t think of anyone else who would make him go this far.

Still, she was certain of one thing. Whoever needed her blood, or something even deeper than that, was someone extremely important to Chris.

“Chris, this isn’t hard for you. There is hatred between you and Winter. The two of you can never be together.

“But I’m different. I’m not disabled. I can marry you openly and properly.”

Chris’s clear, cold gaze carried an innate pressure as it cut her off.

“How do I know you actually have the antidote?”

Skyla looked at him with intense, undisguised love in her eyes.

“I can’t bear to leave you. How could I really take my own life? Chris, I really do have the antidote. Believe me.”

Skyla wasn’t afraid of death. It was as if the pain receptors in her body barely worked.

She was like a cold, venomous snake. She had been able to spend four or five years pretending to be unable to walk, living in a wheelchair. She had been able to hurt herself, poison herself, and kill without blinking.

Her methods were cruel.

A person like that feared almost nothing. There was almost nothing anyone could use to threaten her.
