The helicopters were fighting overhead, leaving Fabian no chance to board.

Garrett’s arm was still bleeding. He moved in front of Fabian to shield him.

“Boss Kane, get into the woods first.”

But more and more of Chris’s bodyguards were arriving. Fabian’s backup team was already entering this part of the mountain and rushing toward them.

For now, the priority was getting Fabian out of the line of fire.

With his bleeding arm, Garrett reached behind his waist and pulled out an explosive.

A cold glint flashed in Fabian’s eyes.

“Blow up Chris Xander!”

White smoke rose from the explosive.

Under the faint moonlight, it detonated with a thunderous blast.

Winter’s ears rang.

The next second, Chris’s strong arm wrapped tightly around her, his broad hand shielding the back of her

head.

Then a second, even more powerful blast ripped through the mountain.

The force sent people flying across the mountaintop.

Several collapsed where they stood. Chris held Winter tightly as the shock wave knocked them over the edge of the steep cliff.

Wrapped in Chris’s arms, Winter couldn’t see anything. All she felt was the world spinning as they rolled down the slope.

She could hear loose rocks crashing around them.

She could also hear the steady, powerful beat of his heart.

Instinct took over, and she clutched his jacket tightly.

A second before the blast, Skyla had pulled a switchblade from the bodyguard on the ground.

As long as Chris stayed beside Winter, she could not get a clean shot. But with a knife, as long as Chris didn’t shoot her dead first, she still had a chance to kill Winter.

Then the blast hit.

Watching Chris protect Winter so carefully, jealousy burned through Skyla’s chest, turning her eyes red.

With a thunderous boom, Skyla had no time to react before the shock wave sent her flying too. She fell over the cliff.
