Winter struggled to wake from the dream.

But the harder she fought, the more it felt like an invisible net was tightening around her, squeezing the air from her lungs.

“I thought you were leaving the country for vacation.’

A familiar, low voice reached her ears.

Winter turned toward it.

Chris was sitting at a candlelit table. The flickering light sharpened the lines of his already handsome face, making his features look even deeper and more striking. His eyes were usually cool and distant, but tonight, there was something dangerously mesmerizing about him.

He looked almost unreal.

The moment Winter saw him, the tightness in her chest grew worse. Her heart felt like it was about to burst out of her ribs.

She looked down.

In her hand was a boarding pass.

The destination printed on it was Frangelia.

And the date was from five years ago.

Back then, she had just finished a research project and had planned to travel abroad to clear her head.

She remembered that much.

But her memories of those two weeks overseas were blurry. She had gotten into an accident abroad and hit her head in the end, Chris had flown overseas himself to bring her home.
