Chapter 440

“G?” Zion called in surprise

He quickly walked toward the man at the door. He had thought it was a nurse, but he had never expected it to be Roy.

The sight of Roy immediately made him feel steadier.

At the doorway, Roy leaned on his cane and lifted one hand, covered in a black compression glove, to press down the brim of his black baseball cap. His dark brown eyes turned toward Winter, who was sitting curled up in the corner of the bed.

She was wearing a loose hospital gown. Her figure looked painfully thin, and her face was pale. Outside the window, the wind dragged dark clouds across the sky. She looked so fragile that if someone opened the window, the wind might carry her away.

Roy’s fingers tightened around the handle of his cane.

“Your cast is off?” Zion asked.

His voice pulled Roy’s gaze back. Roy gave a slight nod.

“That’s good,” Zion said. “That means you’re healing well. You need to get better soon, G.”

Roy was brilliant, badass and ridiculously capable. If he hadn’t been injured, Zion had no doubt they would have gotten Winter out of Liono City the night before last and taken her far away from Chris.

Still, there was a faint smell of medicated ointment on Roy, which meant he was nowhere near fully recovered.

It looked like his plan to have Roy teach that big idiot Gavin a lesson would have to wait.

Roy walked into the room with his cane. Even injured, his tall frame carried a sharp, imposing presence. His gaze swept over the untouched food on the tray.

Zion followed his gaze and explained in a low voice, “Ms. Scott is in a bad mood. She doesn’t want to eat.”

He didn’t dare say that her mood was far worse than bad. Even William had been helpless.

Winter rested her chin on her knees. After seeing Roy, her expression remained faint and distant. Then she turned back toward

the window.

The rainy season had arrived in Liono City, and the rain would not stop.

This was a high floor, so she could not see the greenery below the inpatient wing. All she could see was the heavy, cloud–covered sky and the raindrops striking the glass. There was no view worth looking at.

“Don’t you want to leave this place?”
