The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon

Chapter 114

Now that I look at them more carefully, I notice details that escaped me before.

They’re both still blonde. Beatriz’s hair is still meticulously styled in an elegant updo, while Anne wears her long hair falling over her shoulders in the soft waves she always liked. Their dresses are well made, crafted from quality fabrics/but it takes very little to realize they belong to another life. The colors have faded, the embroidery is understated, and the jewelry they wear is sparse, far too simple for two women who once enjoyed the luxury of one of the most powerful packs on the continent.

Nothing about them compares to Sonia’s effortless elegance or to the clothes I now wear as the future Queen of Lemurin

Time hasn’t been kind to them, either.

The fine lines around Beatriz’s eyes have deepened, and dark circles, barely concealed beneath her makeup, reveal countless sleepless nights. She still holds her back straight and her chin high, but she no longer radiates the confidence of the woman who used to walk through the pack as though the entire world lay at her feet.

Anne doesn’t look like the proud young woman who took pleasure in seeing me kneel before her, either. Her skin has lost the healthy glow I remember, her cheeks are more hollow, and the constant tension in her jaw betrays her exhaustion. Even her hands seem different. They move restlessly over her skirt, twisting the fabric over and over without her even realizing it

They’re both trying to project a dignity they lost a long time ago.

And yet they have the audacity to sit in front of me and ask me for a home.

Life can be incredibly ironic.

For years, they did everything they could to convince me that I didn’t deserve to belong anywhere.

Now they’re the ones who have discovered what it means when no one wants to take you in.

I remain silent for several seconds, without even bothering to look at either of them.

Sonia rests a hand on my knee and absently strokes the fabric of my skirt with her fingertips. She says nothing. She doesn’t try to intervene. She simply stays by my side, respecting the time I need to gather my thoughts.

The entire hall remains silent.

Neither the guards, nor the servants, nor Thomas, nor Jared dares to break it.

Anne is the one who finally gives in.

“Sister…” She rises to her feet, her eyes drifting once more toward Aymara. She hides it as best she can, but her wolf is still trying to catch the faint scent Alaric left on her. “I can smell my mate on your friend. I want to stay here so I can meet him.”

Those words finally make me lift my gaze.

I study her for a long moment before a faint smile curves my lips.

“Your mate?” I ask with a calmness that is almost unsettling. “Do you really want to meet him?”

Anne nods, a mixture of anxiety and hope written across her face.

“How interesting.”

I tilt my head ever so slightly without taking my eyes off her.

“I remember perfectly well that all you ever wanted was to become the Luna of a great pack. You proved it the day you agreed to mate with the chosen mate of an Alpha from a neighboring pack without caring who you were pushing aside

My smile widens just a little.

“That Alpha was my mate.”

The color slowly drains from Anne’s face.

“And now you’re telling me you want to meet yours… even knowing he’s one of the servants in my castle.”

Silence settles over the room once again.

I remember that day perfectly.

“She’s nothing more than a servant living off the family’s charity.”
