He leans forward and rests his forearms on his legs, looking at Johan with an expression that is much more amused than concerned.

“It doesn’t matter that you are one of my granddaughter’s mates. Here, mates come in pairs. In the human world, having multiple mates may be considered normal. Not here.”

Johan does not look away.

“Either way, I’m not leaving.”

Magnus watches him for a few seconds, and a tired smile appears on his face.

“You can’t say they aren’t mates. He’s just as stubborn as she is.”

“That’s exactly what worries me,” Vladimir mutters, bringing the glass to his lips again.

Silas looks toward the cracks in the wall once more and shakes his head.

“If the boy intends to stay, he’ll first have to survive Bastian. After that, we’ll see if he has the patience necessary to live with my granddaughter.”

Johan opens his mouth to respond, but the office door opens before he can.

Bastian enters accompanied by several of his men. He is still wearing his combat clothes, and his hair is damp from the rain. His steps are firm, but the tension in his body is obvious. His jaw is clenched and the muscles in his neck are tense, as if he is still holding back part of the fury he has carried with him since he left the bedroom.

His gaze sweeps across the office until it stops on Johan, and he comes to a halt in front of him. Johan does not move either. For several seconds, neither of them says a word as the tension settles over the room once again.

Vladimir slowly lowers the glass between his fingers, and Magnus places the documents on the desk, watching them closely. Silas, on the other hand, remains reclined in the armchair, following the exchange with an expression that makes it clear he has no intention of intervening as long as he can enjoy the show.

Bastian narrows his eyes.

“You’re still here?”

Johan shrugs slightly without breaking eye contact.

“Where else would I be?”

Vladimir closes his eyes for a second and takes another drink of wine, as if he has just realized that rebuilding Lemuria will probably be much easier than keeping these two men in the same room.

“I think I’d better go see what my friends are doing. They’re probably thinking about going back, since there’s nothing else left to do here,” Vladimir says as he gets to his feet. He leaves the empty glass on Magnus’s desk and glances at Johan, who is still standing by the window. “I don’t want to watch my little brother lose his mind because he’s acting like an idiot.”

Silas shakes his head and gets up from the armchair with some difficulty. He places one hand on the arm of the chair to push himself up, then adjusts his clothes before looking at Magnus.

“Magnus, let’s go see how our girl is doing.”

“All you want is to see my mother,” the king teases.

Magnus leaves everything he was doing on the desk and follows the other two. None of them seems willing to remain in the middle of the argument that is about to begin. Vladimir leaves first, Silas follows him, and Magnus brings up the rear. The door closes, and the office falls silent.

For the first time since Bastian entered, there is no one between him and Johan.

The prince of Lemuria remains by the door for a few seconds, breathing deeply. Then he walks toward the warlock. Each step echoes across the stone floor, and the tension seems to increase with every foot he closes between them. Johan does not step back. He does not even change his posture. He remains relaxed, one shoulder resting against the back of the armchair where his brother was sitting a few minutes earlier.

He knows his new power, and he knows exactly what is inside his body. A few days ago, he was dying in a bed, and now he has three natures coexisting within him in a harmony that is still difficult to understand. If Bastian decides to attack him, he would not stand a chance.

But Johan does not want to fight either.

Bastian stops less than a meter away from him. His eyes remain locked on Johan’s, and his jaw tightens again.

“You have to leave my kingdom and never come back.”

Johan holds his gaze without blinking.

“Celine is mine. She will be queen of all this, she is carrying my child, and whatever exists between the two of you has to end.”

Johan slowly shakes his head in denial. He does not even take a defensive stance. His calmness seems to irritate the prince even more.

“If you’re going to tell me to leave, at least sit down. This is going to take a while, and I have no intention of doing this standing up.”

“You sit down. I’ve already spent enough time in a bed because of you.”

A small smile appears on Johan’s lips. He does not seem to be mocking him, but he cannot help finding a certain irony in the situation. Finally, he sits in the armchair Vladimir had occupied and settles comfortably, crossing his arms over his chest.

“Fine. I’ll give you a summary of the facts.”

“I’m not interested in hearing about your life or how you met my wife. The only thing I’m interested in is getting you out of our lives.”

“Fine, then let’s get straight to the point.”
