Chapter 75
I let out a long sigh and close my eyes for a few seconds.

Bastian could have torn him to pieces in the blink of an eye, and the fact that he didn’t, that he stopped himself, already says a lot for someone like him.
“Is he in the hospital now? You shouldn’t have attacked him like that, Bas.”
“He’s in a dungeon.” His eyes turn golden in the blink of an eye, and his voice blends with that of his wolf. “Are you worried about him?”
“I’m not worried about him. I’m worried about us and about how his pack might react.”
Bastian lifts my face with a finger beneath my chin.

“I think his father should be grateful that his body isn’t hanging from the bridge leading into the kingdom. No wolf with a shred of brains comes into another’s home to declare his love for his mate. If I didn’t kill him, it was because of you.”
I kiss his lips, trying to calm them both, because both Zack and Bastian have tempers as fragile as a grenade without a safety pin.
I’m grateful that he’s honest, that he doesn’t lie to me or hide what happened with Tanner while I was asleep. But we can’t have an Alpha locked in a prison when he hasn’t done anything that suggests he betrayed the kingdom.
“We have to send him to the hospital, Bastian. You can’t lock him in a dungeon because of that.”
He refuses, and instead of answering, he kisses me as though he wants to distract me. Then he hugs me tightly.
“Hug me. I’m cold,” he murmurs while covering us both with the blankets and settling back down, fitting my body against his as though it had been created for that.
He closes his eyes and says nothing more.
“You’re a pureblood Lycan. Bastian.” I let out a small laugh against his chest. “You don’t get cold.”
“No, but my moon does, and I won’t allow that.” He answers without opening his eyes while squeezing me a little tighter in his arms. “Besides, you’re getting annoying and I don’t want to keep arguing. I’m busy hugging my girl.”
His tone is so serious that I can’t help laughing.
Because, of course, for Bastian Thorn, the best way to end an argument is to bury himself beneath the blankets and pretend the problem doesn’t exist.
A surprisingly childish strategy for a man over two hundred years old.
At ten in the morning, I get up to shower and put on my workout clothes. Outside, the sky looks as though it’s about to collapse over the kingdom. The rain continues to pound against the windows and the thunder makes the glass tremble, but I have a routine to follow if I want to improve my physical health and eating habits.
We’ve already had breakfast and, although my body is still slightly sore from the previous night, my wolf has worked wonders over the past few hours. Now it’s time to train with Alaric and Aymara and, later, have lunch with my uncle.
Nor have I forgotten about his presence in the castle, and it keeps making me think over and over again.
Why the hell did he come?
Bastian, on the other hand, seems to have no intention whatsoever of leaving the bed. He remains comfortably stretched out

beneath the blankets, one hand behind his head and the other resting on his bare abdomen. The shameless man doesn’t even try to hide how satisfied he is to still be there.
I shake my head, pretending to be indignant.
“Aren’t you planning to get out of bed?”
I tie my hair into a high porrytail so it won’t bother me during the Beta’s daily torture session, who also happens to be my mate’s best friend.
“I had plans for us.” He puts on the expression of an abandoned puppy that makes me laugh. “The fact that you’re getting ap and want to run off to the gym with my Beta saddens me greatly.
“Then get up and come with me.”
I approach the bed with the intention of hitting him with my pillow, but Bastian is too skilled and too fast. In the blink of an eye, he grabs my arm and I end up on top of him, trapped between his enormous body and the soft blankets.
“I can think of many things we could do together today, and training isn’t one of them.”
His deep voice rumbles beside my ear, and an amused smile appears on his lips when he sees me blush.
His damned dimples should be illegal.
I sigh tiredly, because I would also love to stay in bed doing absolutely nothing with my mate, but…
“Do you want a moon who will rule beside you, or a weak moon who’s good for nothing? Because I don’t want to be an
accessory.”
The amused expression disappears from his face, and his eyes immediately soften. One of his hands slowly strokes my back coyered in scars, and my skin prickles. It still feels strange to have someone touch that area so gently.
I barely have any feeling there.
“You will never be an accessory. Celine. You’re strong, far stronger than you think, and skipping one day of training won’t make any difference. His fingers continue drawing lazy circles over my skin. “But you’re right, and because of that, I’ll accompany you to the training room.”
I kiss his lips and get out of bed, crossing my arms while he lets out a small growl of resignation.
“Then hurry up.”
“My wife has become quite bossy.”
“I’m not your wife yet.”
“Details.”
Minutes later, we head toward the training room. Thank the Goddess, this time we take the short route and I don’t have to cross half the castle while dozens of people greet me with such reverence that it still makes me nervous.
Bastian opens the door for me, and I step inside first.
Darkness and silence.
