The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon
Chapter 81
No matter how hard I look at what Bastian is staring at… I don’t see anything.

Only a thick fog a few meters away that prevents me from seeing beyond it. It is so dense that it looks like a white wall standing in the middle of the forest, motionless and silent, as though it were waiting for us.
“I don’t see anything, Bas. Just fog.”
“And that’s where we have to go through to reach my grandfather’s home.”
Hadn’t he said his grandfather lived in a cave or something like that?
Whatever.
He pulls on my hand, though without the enthusiasm from before. The closer we get, the more obvious it becomes that the idea of seeing his father and grandfather doesn’t please him very much.
Thomas moves ahead to take position on my left, while Jack occupies his usual place to Bastian’s right. Both of them study the fog carefully, as though verifying something I am incapable of seeing.
The guards walking behind us whisper among themselves, words I can’t quite make out.
The Thorn Forest continues to surprise me.
As we approach, I begin to notice something strange. The fog doesn’t move. It doesn’t disperse. It doesn’t react to the wind or the forest’s humidity. Even the sounds seem to fade near it. The songs of birds gradually disappear, and the constant buzzing of insects eventually dies away, leaving behind a silence so deep that it becomes uncomfortable.
“Don’t be afraid, sweetheart. It’s only a few meters in a straight line until we pass through it.”
I’m afraid of stepping wrong, falling, or crashing into something hidden within all that whiteness. Even so, I listen to him and continue walking beside him.
The temperature drops the moment we cross the first banks of fog, only slightly, but enough for me to notice. I frown at the change. The air feels different too, cleaner, lighter, as though the suffocating humidity of the jungle has begun to disappear around us little by little.
I squeeze Bastian’s hand as we keep moving forward, and the fog eventually swallows us completely. After only a few steps, 1 can no longer see Thomas, nor Jack, not even my own feet.
Everything around us becomes white.
White and silent.
For a few seconds, I have the uncomfortable sensation of walking inside a dream.
Or between two worlds.
And then, without any warning, light appears in front of us and a cold that pierces beneath my skin like needles.
Bastian’s jacket ends up around my shoulders the moment I recover from the shock of going from a warm, humid environment to a frozen one.
“What the hell…?”
“We just crossed a portal,” Jack informs me before Bastian can say anything. “We’re in human lands now.”

1 frown.
Wasn’t Bastian’s grandfather supposed to live near the human world?
Now it turns out we’re inside it.
“But how?”

“I’ll explain later. There are many portals scattered between the supernatural territories and the human world. There are fae kingdoms, vampire kingdoms, lycan kingdoms, covens… even demonic domains.”
The information hits me like a slap to the face.
“Then… what is our continent called?”
Bastian smiles when he hears my question.
“You really don’t know?”
I shake my head as we continue walking. The trail is rocky, cold, and covered with a thin layer of snow. The strangest part is that the sky is gradually becoming brighter. Just a few minutes ago I was watching a sunset through the depths of a jungle, and now it looks as though dawn is rising before us.
“No. A servant usually doesn’t have access to certain information.” I joke.
But my comment doesn’t seem to amuse him.
“The world is much larger than you imagine, Celine. There are hidden islands, cities concealed between mountains, kingdoms protected by ancient magic, and entire continents humans will never find. Some have heard of Avalon in old legends. Others know stories about lost continents that vanished from maps. We come from one of them.”
“Which one?”
“Lemuria”
I blink several times.
The name sounds familiar, as though I heard it once in a children’s story or in one of the old books from the pack library.
I thought Lemuria was only a legend.”
“That’s exactly what we want humans to believe.”
For a few moments, I remain silent while observing the forest surrounding us. The enormous dark trees are covered in snow, and the dawn light paints the horizon in shades of pink and gold.
It’s beautiful.
Strange.
Unreal.
Bastian is telling me things that sound as though they came straight out of a fantasy tale, and yet he says them with the same naturalness he would use to talk about the weather.
I never imagined our world hid so many other places.
“And where are we now?”
