I lay back against the pillows, feeling like my whole body had been emptied out and then slowly put back together. I was exhausted, but my eyes stayed open because I didn’t want to miss what was happening in front

of me.

Scott stood near the bed with Kael in his arms, and in the bright hospital lights, his face looked softer. His eyes were full of love and pride, but there were other emotions too that I could feel clearly through our bond. There was relief, there was wonder. He stared at the baby as if he couldn’t believe he was real. And underneath it, there was a fierce protectiveness.

Even though I was tired, seeing him like that made me feel happy. I watched him adjust Kael carefully, supporting his tiny head with tenderness.

When Scott whispered his name, I had been surprised. He must have carried it in his mind for a long time. I didn’t argue because I understood that Scott had wanted to name our third pup badly. He hadn’t had any say at Ryan and Emma’s birth, and I knew he had felt left out even if he never said it. So I let him have this without question.

Scott leaned down and kissed me softly, careful not to jostle me. “I’ll be right back,” he said. “I want my wolves to see him.”

I nodded and he walked out with Kael.

Julie came closer then, pulling her gloves on. “Alright, Your Majesty,” she said gently. “I’m going to stitch up now. I’ll give you anesthesia first so you won’t feel pain.”

I nodded slowly. Then she started working, and the room became quieter. I stared at the ceiling, listening to the faint sounds of medical equipment. After a moment, I spoke softly. “Julie,” I said, “how is Troy?”

Julie’s hands didn’t stop, but her shoulders stiffened slightly.

“He is coping,” she replied in a clipped voice.

I swallowed, sensing the tension behind those two simple words. “Have you seen him?” I asked carefully.

Julie paused for only a second before continuing her stitching. “I have,” she said quietly. “But he was not in the mood to talk to me, so I didn’t push him.”

Her words carried hurt. I didn’t ask more because I knew Julie wouldn’t open up easily, and this wasn’t the right moment to corner her. Still, as I lay there, I couldn’t stop thinking that Troy was shutting everyone out, even the one person fate had tied to him. I also couldn’t ignore the feeling that if this continued, he would break completely. I stayed quiet, but in the back of my mind, I knew it might take pressure from the King himself to push Troy toward healing, even if he hated it at first.

About ten minutes later, Scott returned. His face was glowing with happiness, and positive energy came through the bond. He stepped in carefully, holding Kael, and when he reached my bedside, his smile softened.

“They are already celebrating,” he murmured, clearly pleased. “Everyone wanted to see him.”

He placed Kael gently in my arms. The moment Kael’s warm body touched me, he wriggled slightly and turned his face toward my chest. Then he began rooting clumsily, searching, his little mouth opening and closing as he tried to find what he wanted.

I couldn’t help chuckling softly. “Someone is hungry,” I murmured.

Scott watched with curiosity and affection, his eyes focused on Kael’s small movements. I guided my breast to Kael gently, adjusting him until he found my nipple. The moment he latched on, his tiny body seemed to settle, and I felt a quiet pull that made me inhale sharply, Scott stayed beside me, looking almost fascinated, like he was witnessing something sacred.

By the time they moved me to my private cabin, my exhaustion had grown heavier. I barely remember being wheeled down the hall. I only remember closing my eyes for a second and then falling into sleep. When I woke up, the room was dim. I realized it was night. The cabin was quiet except for soft breathing.

Scott was sitting on a chair near Kael’s cradle. The lamp beside him was low. His expression was gentle as he kept touching Kael’s cheek or brushing a finger lightly over his tiny hand, like he couldn’t stop himself.

I smiled weakly from the bed, and a small laugh slipped out of me.

Scott snapped his head toward me instantly, and when he realized I was awake, the tips of his ears turned pink. The sight made me smile even more.

He stood up quietly and came to the bed. “I don’t want to miss a moment,” he said softly. “Not even one.”

He slipped onto the bed beside me carefully, wrapping one arm around me and pulling me c pressing on my sore body. He kissed me gently and then asked, “How are you feeling?”

I opened my mouth to answer, but before I could speak, the door swung open.

Ryan and Emma rushed inside the room, full of energy, with Cindy hurrying behind them, trying to keep them quiet. Their little footsteps sounded too loud in the quiet cabin.

“Mommy!” Emma cried, running toward the bed.

“Daddy!” Ryan shouted, his eyes already searching for the baby.

Scott immediately got off the bed and picked them both up, one in each arm, as if they weighed nothing. He showered their faces with kisses, making them squeal and laugh.

Cindy said breathlessly, “They wouldn’t stop asking.”

Scott carried them closer to Kael. “Look,” he said gently. “Meet your brother.”

Both of them leaned forward, their eyes wide. Ryan’s mouth fell open. Emma’s hands flew to her cheeks in pure excitement.

“He’s so small,” Emma whispered, sounding amazed.

Emma’s expression changed as she looked from Kael to me. “But mommy,” she said, almost accusing, “why didn’t you have a girl? Girls are better.”

Ryan immediately disagreed. “No, boys are better. Girls only whine,” he declared confidently. “Now I have a baby boy to play with.

Emma frowned. “You can’t play with him like your toys,” she argued. “He’s a baby.”

Ryan looked serious for a moment, then said, “Then I will teach him. He will be my best friend.”

Scott chuckled softly, clearly amused. “You both have to be gentle,” he said. “He’s new”

Emma leaned closer to Kael. “Hi baby,” she whispered, as if Kael could understand her. “I’m your sister.”

Ryan nodded, copying her. “I’m your brother,” he said proudly.

Hearing them Kael stirred, his face scrunching slightly, and then he let out a loud cry, filling the room.

Scott instantly stepped closer, and picked him up. Ryan and Emma stared at their brother with a mix surprise and delight.

“He cries so loud!” Emma remarked.

“You disturbed him,” Ryan accused.

Emma pouted. “You disturbed him.”

Scott shook his head. “How will I manage three?” he sighed.
