THE SPITEFUL BRIDE: Marry To Rival's Son novel Chapter 150

Chapter 150

She stepped closer to him, close enough that she could see the golden flecks in his brown eyes, could see the hope and fear warring in his expression.

“My happiness is with you, Ethan,” she said softly. “If you’ll have me.”

Ethan’s face went through about ten different expressions in the span of five seconds. Confusion, hope, disbelief, joy, and finally something that looked like pain.

“What are you saying?” he asked, his voice careful and measured. “I just heard you tell Mia hours ago that you wanted to be with me because my father was the cause of your misery.

You said you wanted to use me to get back at him. And now you’re standing here saying this? Are you being serious right now, Elena?”

Elena felt like he had slapped her. She had forgotten, in all the emotion of the moment, that he had heard her terrible confession to Mia. That he knew she had originally planned to use him.

“Ethan, look at me,” she said desperately, reaching for his hands. “I know you heard those words from me, but I was angry and frustrated and hurt. I was saying things I didn’t mean because I wanted someone else to hurt the way I was hurting.”

She looked directly into his eyes, willing him to see the truth in her face.

“That person you saw earlier, that wasn’t really me,” she continued. “That was the emotionally drained version of me. The one who was tired of bottling up her emotions, tired of pretending everything was fine when it wasn’t.

But I’ve thought about it, really thought about it, and I know now that I don’t need to fight for a man who can’t fight for me. I need to fight for myself. For my happiness. I deserve that much.”

Elena paused, taking a shaky breath.

“And Mose deserves to be happy too, even if it’s with Sienna. Especially if it’s with Sienna.”

Ethan searched her face for any sign that she was lying or trying to convince herself of something she didn’t really believe.

“Are you sure?” he asked quietly. “Are you absolutely sure this is what you want? Because I can’t do this if you’re going to change your mind tomorrow or next week or next month. I can’t be your second choice, Elena. I don’t think I’ll be able to survive it if you decide you made a mistake.”

Elena reached up and touched his face again, her thumb tracing the line of his cheekbone with infinite tenderness.

“Yes, I’m sure,” she said firmly. “You’re not my second choice. You’re my first choice. My only choice. The choice I should have made months ago if I hadn’t been so lost in my own pain.”

But then Ethan asked the question she had been dreading.

“What if Mose remembers you?” he said quietly. “What if he wakes up tomorrow and suddenly remembers everything you shared together? What would you do then?”

Elena paused, and in that moment of hesitation, Ethan saw everything he needed to see.

“You see?” he said, shaking his head sadly. “You still love him deep down. You’re not ready for this, Elena.”

ELENA WOULD NEVER LOVE HIM

“No. No, that’s not…” Elena started, but she could hear how unconvincing her own voice sounded.

“Elena, listen to me,” Ethan said, gently taking her arms in his hands. “I love you. I really do, with everything I have in me. But I don’t want you to get into something with me just because of whatever Mia said to you, or because you want to stop loving someone you still love.”

Elena felt tears starting to fall down her cheeks at the gentle understanding in his voice.

“Ethan,” she said, and her voice sounded so sad and broken that it made his chest ache.

“I want you, Elena,” he continued, his voice steady but full of emotion. “All of you. Not just the part of you that’s trying to move on, but all of you. So I’ve made a decision.”

Elena looked up at him, afraid of what he was going to say.

“I’ve decided to wait,” Ethan said simply. “I want you to be completely sure that it’s me you’ll always choose. I want you to be sure that you’re not just running away from pain or trying to prove something to yourself.”

Elena felt like her heart was breaking and healing at the same time.

“I’ll wait until you’re yourself again,” Ethan continued. “I want you to find your passion and your purpose again. I need that Elena back – the strong, confident woman I fell in love with. And rushing into a relationship right now wouldn’t be the best thing for either of us.”

Elena moved closer to him and wrapped her arms around his waist, hugging him tightly. She buried her face against his chest and breathed in his familiar scent.

“Thank you so much. For loving me,” she whispered against his shirt.

“I always will,” Ethan replied, his arms coming up to hold her just as tightly. “Always. But I want you to be happy and whole first. I want you to choose me because you can’t imagine your life without me, not because you’re trying to forget someone else.”

Elena pulled back slightly to look up at his face.

“Would you really wait for me?” she asked, uncertainty clear in her voice. “Even if it takes a long time? Even if I not sure how long it might be?”

Ethan smiled down at her, and despite the sadness in his eyes, his love for her was clear and unwavering.

“Till my last breath,” he said simply.

And in that moment, Elena knew that whatever happened next, whatever journey she had to take to find herself again, she wouldn’t be taking it alone. Ethan would be there, waiting patiently for her to become the woman she

was meant to be.

It wasn’t the ending she had expected when she chased him down here. But somehow, it felt like exactly the right beginning for whatever came next.

Ethan was right, she needed to build herself back before she’d think of any relationship.

Yes! She needs a vacation, alone. She needs time. But Mia would want her around, what was she going to do.
