“Yes,” she said immediately, her smile radiant despite the tears streaming down her face.
Ethan slipped the ring onto her finger with shaking hands, and Elena was amazed by how perfectly it fit. Then he stood up and cupped her face in his hands, placing a soft, tender kiss on her lips.
When he pulled away after a moment, his cheeks were flushed pink, and Elena couldn’t help but laugh at how innocent he looked.
“You look so cute, darling,” she said, and the endearment made Ethan blush even deeper.
He was blushing like he’s never been kissed before. She couldn’t help but wonder, how someone who’s so confident in every other area of life so adorably shy about this?
“Say… say it again,” Ethan requested, looking at her with such love and vulnerability that it made her heart ache.
“What? Darling?” Elena asked teasingly.
He blushed again and nodded eagerly.
“Darling. Darling. Darl…..” Elena started to repeat it multiple times, but Ethan cut her off by capturing her lips with his.
His hands moved to the back of her head, his fingers tangling in her hair as he deepened the kiss. Elena’s hands instinctively gripped his shirt, pulling him closer to her.
The kiss was becoming more intense, more passionate, and Elena could feel the heat building between them. But Ethan pulled away slowly, his breathing slightly labored.
This wasn’t the right time or place, he thought firmly. She deserves better than being rushed into something in a restaurant. She deserves to be respected and cherished.
When they sat back down to finish their dinner, Elena brought up the concern that had been eating at her since she had impulsively proposed.
“What about your parents?” she asked quietly. She couldn’t believe she’s going to be marrying a Meyer. She didn’t plan to propose to Ethan tonight – the idea just came to her and she went with it. But now she’s thinking about the reality of it all.
She paused, looking worried. Samuel was going to hate this. She’s hundred percent sure he’ll never let his son marry her, especially not after everything that’s happened.
“I’m a grown man,” Ethan said firmly. “I can make my own decisions about my life and my future.”
Elena looked at him with something that might have been pity. He doesn’t really understand who Samuel is or what he’s truly capable of, of he knew he won’t be saying this.
“What if he threatens to disown you?” she asked seriously. “What if he cuts you off completely?”
“Elena,” Ethan said, reaching across to take her hand in his. “You need to understand something. My father has no power over me. He can’t threaten me with his inheritance because he knows I genuinely don’t care about it. I’ve never wanted his money or his business empire.”
He squeezed her hand gently. “You are what’s important to me. You are my priority, my future, my everything. Please don’t ever forget that.”

How does he always know exactly what to say? Elena wondered. How does he have this ability to calm all her fears with just a few words?
It was so different from her relationship with Mose. With Mose, she had been the one making most of the moves, even though she knew he loved her.
But with Ethan, he was intentional about everything. He didn’t just show his love through actions – he spoke it out loud, constantly and clearly.
They finished their meal in comfortable conversation, both of them stealing glances at the engagement ring that now sparkled on Elena’s finger.
As Ethan drove them back through the city, Elena raised her eyebrow in coon when she noticed they were
heading toward Stefan’s house.
“Where are we going?” she asked.
“To Stefan’s place,” Ethan replied. “Why?”
“What about your place?” Elena asked, her voice taking on a different tone.
Ethan glanced over at her, looking confused. “You want to come to my place?”
“Is that a problem?.
“No! No, not at all,” Ethan stammered quickly. “I’d love to have you at my place. I just thought you might want to go home. It’s been a long evening, and you might be tired.”
Elena smiled in a way that made Ethan’s pulse quicken. “I’m nowhere close to being tired,” she said, her voice carrying a teasing quality that seemed to wrap around him.
The way Elena was looking at him made Ethan’s grip tighten on the steering wheel. The way she spoke, Oh God.
“You could sleep over since it’s getting late…” he started to say.
“Shhh,” Elena interrupted, reaching over to place her finger against his lips. Then she traced it slowly down his chest, her touch sending electricity through his entire body. “Just drive, Ethan.”
Ethan swallowed hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing visibly. He blinked several times, trying to focus on the road instead of the way Elena’s simple touch was making him feel.
Focus, he told himself. Don’t crash the car. Just get home safely. He repeated like a mantra.
When they arrived at his penthouse building, Elena didn’t even wait for him to turn off the engine before she leaned over and started kissing him. Her lips were soft and insistent, and Ethan felt his brain stop working entirely.
They stumbled toward the building entrance, their lips still locked together. Elena’s hands were already working on the buttons of his shirt as they made their way to the elevator.
Ethan fumbled with his keys, trying to unlock his penthouse door while Elena continued to kiss his neck and work on removing his shirt completely. His hands were shaking so badly he could barely get the key into the lock.
