Chapter 48
When they reached the car, Stefan opened the door and gently lowered Mia onto the seat, a little too gently.
His arms lingered longer than necessary, adjusting her legs like she was fragile and would break any minute.
“Don’t want to hurt either of you” he said Sarcastically.
Mia smiled and lightly smacked his chest in a playful manner “I had no idea you could be this romantic, husband.” Stefan rolled his eyes at her word.
Sliding into the car beside her, he nodded at Mose. “Take us home please. Before Elena ends up doing something crazy” Mia gasped
“You didn’t inform her?” Stefan shrugged.
If he had told her, would he had seen the almighty Elena weep like a child? That was the first time she had ever obeyed him, and it was fun to watch.
Mia caught the look on his face and knew immediately that something had happened between them, something not Elena-like. It took a minute before it clicked.
“Wait! She cried?” She looked at Stefan shocked before her eyes darted to Mose.
Mose kept his eyes glued to the road, pretending like he had no clue what they were talking about. Stefan had told him not to say a word to Elena, even though the moment she’d started crying, he had wanted to come clean. He hated seeing tears on her face, and it broke him that he couldn’t do anything at they time.
“And you let her! You both watched her cry when you knew I was with your men?” She pointed an accusing finger at Stefan, while shaking her head in amazement. Stefan said nothing, but a small smile rested on his face.
She slapped her palm against her forehead. “Oh, great. Now, you both just landed yourselves on Elena’s bad book” Stefan shrugged like it was no big deal.
Last night, when Stefan walked into Mia’s hotel room, she’d been stunned. She couldn’t help but wonder what he was doing there, if he wasn’t the mastermind behind her kidnapping.
Then he explained to her that, her dad had arranged the whole thing. He received a call from one of his underground men when he was in his office. That was before he’d received the text, but he had waited all this while because he wanted to know Samuel’s intentions.
He had to let it play out until they figured it out. Immediately they did, he stepped in.
It was Mia who had insisted on switching places with Mia Legra. A call, and a the mention of ‘a million dollars’ was all they needed to get her on their side.
It was her idea to announce the secret wedding to the whole world. The pregnancy hint? Her idea too. Even the bridal carry, another last-minute move she’d pushed for, though it took a lot of convincing before Stefan finally agreed.
And when he did? He delivered.

She couldn’t help the grin that plastered on her face, she had won this time. And she always will continue to win, because she was Mia Meyer.
She was born to rule and dominate, she doesn’t care about her gender. All she knows is, she’ll achieve everything she sets her mind on. She’ll go for everything they thought she couldn’t achieve, because she deserves the best.
She turned to Stefan who was focused on his phone. Now, she’d gotten the best partner. She thought smiling, but her smile froze the moment the thoughts moved to that of her dad.
She still found it hard to believe her dad would really go this far. Which father leaves his daughter drugged in the hands of strangers? What if the men hired weren’t Stefans underground men? What if they or Julian Thorn had molested her.
All for what? For a game? He was willing to ruin her career and life for politics.
What would have happened if the media had caught her there? He even instructed it was placed on billboards.
This was someone she called her father, nothing has ever hurt her this way. She thought a father’s job was to protect his child from the world? But her’s wanted the world to watch her humiliated.
If her mother were still alive, none of this would’ve happened. She would’ve protected her with her life. Her heart stirred painfully, but her face didn’t show that of pain. She masked it perfectly.
She pushed the thoughts away, there was no going back now. The line as already been crossed, no time for self pity.
Now, he’d watch her marry Stefan Sterling.
Cassandra was halfway through getting her hair done when she noticed something strange, the usual salon chatter had shifted. Stylists paused mid-sentence, clients leaned into their phones, whispering in shock. Laughter mixed with disbelief filled the room.
At first, she ignored it, probably just another celebrity scandal.
But then she caught a name.
“Mia Meyer… or should we say, Mia Sterling now?”
Her ears perked. Cassandra leaned forward. “Wait, what did you just say?”
One of the women nearby didn’t even look up from her phone. “Don’t you have a phone? This is the biggest trending news on the Internet today”
Cassandra quickly unlocked her phone, went straight to her browser, and typed Mia’s name.
The headlines hit her like a punch.

Cassandra blinked rapidly, her mouth hanging open.
“What the hell…” she muttered, scrolling furiously. It was everywhere, news blogs, gossip sites, social media, even a few business pages. Mia’s smiling face beside Stefan’s, his hand protectively on her waist.
A picture of Mia on Stefans arms, both of them looking at each other with love. Another image of Julian smiling to the camera as a lady stood beside him.
“Oh my God…” she gasped, already pulling up Samuel’s number.
Voicemail.
She tried again. Still voicemail.
“Damn it, Samuel!”
He’d drank too much the night before and had mumbled something about wanting to sleep in and being left alone. She didn’t think much of it at the time.
But now? His useless daughter had just shaken the entire country’s media space, and he was busy snoring through it.
She had no choice but to cancel her remaining appointments and head home, this couldn’t wait.
She shoved her phone in her bag, jumped out of the salon chair with half-pinned hair, and bolted out the door.
The drive home was a blur, every stoplight felt like an hour. She couldn’t get the images out of her mind, how Mia was cradling an hidden baby bump, Stefan holding her like a prize. And Julian? The look on his face said it all.
How did she plan all this without us knowing? Mia, Married? When? Was it why Samuel was celebrating? Did he know about and kept it from them?
No, no, Samuel hates the Sterlings. He loathe them with everything he has, he wouldn’t be happy if he knows about this. She needed to inform him.
By the time she reached the gate, she was breathing heavily, her heart pounding, though she did nothing but sit at the back sit of the car.
Her heels clicked sharply against the marble floor as she moved through the house. She didn’t bother to knock when she reached the bedroom, she pushed the door open and stepped inside.
There he was, snoring softly, completely unaware that his roof were under fire.
She stared at him for a moment, then exhaled.
