The Stand In Wife’s Revenge

Chapter 17

I couldn’t help thinking that I had been pulled from a fantasy when I snapped back to the real world and felt my body lift off the bed.

My heart started to race, and the dream I had woke up from stayed shady and divided as it had been The delicate ticking of a clock on the wall was the only

sound in the quiet room.

With the delicateness of the sheets touching my skin, I rested up against the headboard and exhaled .I felt different now than with how I felt when I was so

worn out before.

My voice was heavy from sleep as I asked, Who is it?

A trolley loaded up with various dishes was moved in by two maids as the door squeaked open. They carried it into the room with a cordial smile.

The aroma of newly prepared bread, simmered meats, and something sweet filled my nose, making my stomach rumble. Before I got an opportunity to think, my stomach began to thunder uproariously as craving held onto me more furiously than before.

One of the maids set the trolley next to the bed, her hair conveniently tied back in a bun. She smiled and asked, Miss, could you like us to serve you?

Feeling the yearning in my chest, I nodded quickly. She arranged the plates, setting a little bowl of grapes before me. I immediately took one and speedily placed it in my mouth.

It was delicious and for a short moment the food seemed to be the only thing that made a difference. Despite the fact that I hadn’t yet gotten up or cleaned my hands I didn’t care.

I could hear slow strides before me as I crunched on the grapes. Alex, now wearing a blue shirt and dim jeans, was standing at the door when I looked up.

Alex looked more polished than the way he looked this morning and put together. Although his dark hair was a little disheveled, he still exuded power and dominance.

The maids quietly left the room, leaving us by ourselves. Alex approached the bed and stopped off to the side staring down at me with an expression I couldn’t quite make out.

With a worried tone he asked. You look pale. Are you okay?

I’m fine. Just hungryI said.

I could feel Alex’s eyes on me despite the fact that he stayed quiet briefly. A small smile pulled at his lips as his eyes relaxed.

You didn’t wash your handsHe delicately reminded me in a tone that appeared to be a joke however there was a sprinkle of seriousness in it.

I’m sorry.I said softly, I was just hungry,

With a low, practically lively voice he said You know you can eat all you need. You’re presently eating for two.

I nodded absently as I kept on focusing on the food before me. The possibility of eating for two felt odd as though I hadn’t yet acknowledged the situation.

He paused before taking out a document from underneath his arm. I brought you something.

I looked up, my considerations muddled by the food and hunger that followed me all over.

i fch something when Ales gave me the file 1 felt a sharp torment in my mind as my fingers contacted the paper. I almost dropped the document in light of the fact that the sensation was se unexpected and solid that I froze.

For several seconds my vision became blurry and I blinked vigorously to get rid of the fog that had covered my head. I couldn’t recall why but the picture of the File in my hands felt too familiar.

I had previously seen something similar. It’s possible that I have previously signed something similar to this. I felt a wave of dizziness come over me and my stomach twisted from the confusion but what was it?

Are you okay? Alex’s voice pierced the mist as his hand rested lightly on my arm seemingly to steady me.

Tm fine. Justremembering a few things. I said in a shaky voice, trying to gather myself.

Although he didn’t seem persuaded, he didn’t insist. Softly he said It’s normal. You’ll recall more in due time. Just rest for the time being. I’ll let you eat if you’re finished.

1 grasped the file with trembling hands and gazed at it. I felt a pull toward signing something like this but the memory was like a mist that I couldn’t quite shake. Was this the right thing to do?

I was uncomfortable with the idea of signing anything without really remembering anything but I had no other option. Could I trust anything in this situation including Alex? I looked at him and nodded slowly as his unreadable gaze remained fixed on me.

Alright. I will rest.

He smiled and turned to go yet as he got to the door, I felt my chest tightened. There were a great deal of thoughts dashing through my head and not even one of them checked out.

Nonetheless, I expected to follow through with something. I expected to make a move. As yet holding the document I stayed there as he left the room

of my choice. I needed to believe that doing this was best for both the child and me.
