The Stand in Wife’s Revenge

Chapter 41

Her light intoxicating laughter reverberated throughout the room. However her speed was insufficient. Pulling her back against me I grabbed her by the wrist. As her hands touched my chest her breath caught in her throat.

We were near. Too close.

Something else took the place of her laughter. A heavier object. Her dark eyes searched mine as she gazed up at me her lips slightly parted. The atmosphere changed. I could feel the warmth of her body against mine the soft rise and fall of her breath.

My ears were pounding with my pulse. For a brief moment Avas eyes found my lips. It was enough. I leaned in. And then-. My lips found hers. At first it moved slowly and uncertainly. Examination. But something in me exploded the instant she answered.

I pulled her in closer as my hand moved to the small of her back. Her body fit against mine like she belonged there her fingers curling into my shirt as she melted into me. Her warm soft genuine taste was intoxicating.

The nightmare had vanished. It was just her now. only us. The kiss grew deeper more intense more desperate. Although I had kissed a lot of women in the past none of them felt quite like this. None of them caused my pulse to quicken my chest to tighten or my thoughts to fade into thin air. It was Ava.

There was only her. My nostrils were spinning from the combination of vanilla and something floral in her scent. I couldnt decide whether I wanted to slow down or devour her. Alexander’s POV

The floor of the bedroom was streaked with gold as the morning light came in through the curtains. However warmth did nothing to relieve the cold burden on my chest. The agonizing relics of the nightmare continued to replay in my head. The tears of Ava. the shot. the blood.

With a sharp exhale I wiped my face. My head ached and a dull lingering migraine was developing behind my eyes. The visions that wouldnt go away had robbed the sleep. Air was what I needed. After hauling myself from bed I put on a shirt and went into the hallway. I felt the mansions eerie stillness as it

encircled me in silence.

Too little noise was made, Until-, the slight rumbling of motion. Before I could think my feet dragged me to the kitchen. The air smelled of something savory and fresh herbs as I got closer. Softly the rhythmic sound of a knife striking a cutting board reverberated.

I stopped as I rounded a corner. Standing at the kitchen counter Ava chopped tomatoes with a practiced ease her dark hair loosely tied back a few strands cascading over her face, Her skin was illuminated by the sunlight coming in through the window which created a gentle halo around her.

The sound of my footsteps caused her to turn and she grinned when we met eyes. My breath left my lungs when I saw that warm effortless and simple

expression.

Her head cocked slightly as she said Good morning,

Startled I said You’rehere..

She let out a quiet laugh. Where else would I be?
