The Stand In Wife’s Revenge
Chapter 45
Tightening Caden’s robe around my body I sat at the mattress with a tiny smile tugging at the corner of my mouth. I tried to hide the elation that welled up inside of me by twirling a lock of hair around my finger.
Emerald had witnessed our moment. She had witnessed us together and that was precisely what I desired. I wanted her to realize that Caden was now mine
and no matter how hard she tried she should never have him.
My smile expanded as I heard the door creak open. There he was.Caden. His dark face and angry eyes were fixed on him as he stood in the doorway. I was
unable to control the shiver of pleasure in my chest. This only marked the start.
Caden said sharply “Ivy you shouldn’t have done that.”
I feigned confusion by raising an eyebrow. With a harmless gamble I asked “What do you mean?. I didn’t do anything wrong.”
“You know exactly what I mean,” he yelled.
His fingers were clenched at his sides as he approached me. “You were aware of her reactions. You were aware of the consequences if you drove her that
way.”
I shrugged trying not to lose my cool. “She’s fine Caden. She will move past it. You don’t have to be concerned about her.”
With a tightening jaw he gazed at me. “No. You don’t understand. You’ve already created enough problems. You should go, I won’t say it again.”
In amazement I blinked. “Go away? but I thought.“I said, attempting to contain the pain in my chest.
This wasn’t what I expected not from him. Not in light of everything we had endured.
Again with more force Caden said “Yeah leave. After what you did I no longer need you here.”
I felt my heart sink but I didn’t want to tell him how much it hurt. I got out of bed letting my robe hang loosely about me.
I said resolutely in a low but steady voice “I’m not leaving.. I’m not going anywhere Caden. I am here to stay.”
His eyes darkened with frustration as he shook his head. “You’re not needed here so why can’t you understand? you have never been wanted.*
I stood my ground even though his words hurt more than I had expected. I whispered my voice trembling just a little ‘I love you Caden.. I’ve loved you forever. That’s what you know.”
His word sliced through me like a knife as he said.“I don’t love you, Ivy.”
My breath seized in my throat and I froze. “What?” I muttered, my heart pounding. “What do you mean? You don’t care about me?”
His eyes were a mix of pity and frustration as he shook his head. “I didnt in any way. I never loved you that way. You were always merely a distraction. And you ought to have figured that out by now.”
“W–what are you saying, Caden?” I uttered, barely raising my voice above a whisper. ‘I believed that we had something. I thought we had been…..” I began but was unable to finish.
Caden’s eyes briefly softened before hardening once more. “Ivy, I already told you about this. There is no way that it will happen between you and me.”

Chapter 45
As he began to delve deeper into the wound with each sentence i felt my heart break into pieces.
I was incapable of thinking.
The overwhelming wave of emotions rushing over me is all I might want to experience, damage, rage, betrayal. I had given it all to him. 1 did everything for him so why did he treat me this way?
I started to speak but the words would not come out. I had trouble swallowing because of my constricted throat. I was having trouble breathing.
“No…” I said softly slowly, shaking my head. ‘No, that isn’t possible.”
He did not however respond. His posture was rigid as he stood there looking at me with icy eyes. My feet stumbled under me as I attempted to escape the pain but before I could stop myself I got up and fled the room. I had to leave that place. I couldn’t hear what he was saying in the same room as him.
With my heart racing in my chest I ran down the hall as tears clouded my vision and vision. I felt helpless, exposed and totally lost. How should he have told me that everything we had turned out to be a lie? How could he have said that to me? I slammed my room door behind me after pushing it open.
I sobbed uncontrollably as I fell onto the bed. They didnt love me Caden. He never had. It struck me like a ton of bricks, and I realized that everything had changed as the tears rolled from my eyes.
I had been living in a lie and a myth that I had made up for myself. I had a strong desire for him and wanted him to love me but now I saw it for what it was. He did not want me at all. My body shook from the weight of everything I had just learned and I dashed out into the hallway.
I had made a fool of myself. And now I constantly lose him. Caden meanwhile stood in the middle of the space his hands entangled in his hair. His mind racing he let out a frustrated groan and combed through his hair again.
He no longer knew what he should do. He never could have predicted how bad things would get with Ivy. What had he done and what had just happened? He was caught in conflict.
And when he sank into the mattress edge he knew that there had been no simple solution.
But I didn’t care how he felt, the only thing I felt right now was rage and even more rage. I was going to bring Emerald
down to where she belongs.
I swear by the moon goddess, I would.
